Inhalations with a runny nose are medical procedures based on the inhalation of specific medicinal components (substances) through the nose. These manipulations are also used to eliminate the most common manifestations of pathologies in the upper respiratory tract: tonsillitis, bronchitis, pharyngitis.
Inhalations with a runny nose have an undoubted advantage: inhalation allows you to achieve a local optimal effect, while there is no serious load on other organs.
To achieve the greatest effect from the procedures, you should adhere to some rules.
- Inhalations with a cold (as well as with the other diseases of the respiratory organs mentioned above) are carried out after at least an hour (and preferably one and a half) after eating, not earlier.
- Inhalation and exhalation of medicinal components through the nose should be without tension, freely.
- For an hour after inhalation with a runny nose, it is not recommended to talk, go outside, eat and sing.
The most detailed instructions on the proper conduct of the procedures will be given by the attending physician, with whom you should consult.
Inhalation solutions may include several elements. So, for example, for procedures, a mixture of such components as baking soda, water, mineral herbs, medicinal herbs and some medicines is often used. Also popular is the combination of eucalyptus tea and peppermint. It is enough to add three or four drops of the mixture to a liter of water. In pharmacies, you can also find ready-made solutions intended for use in special devices.
Inhalations with a cold in children should be carried out in the absence of pneumonia, pulmonary edema or high temperature. These conditions are contraindications.
Runny nose inhalations for children are carried out with extreme caution. Experts recommend the use of solutions up to 30 degrees for babies. For older children, the optimal temperature of the mixture for inhalation is 30-40 degrees. For procedures, a cardboard funnel is often used, which is put on the spout of the teapot. You can use a special inhaler. As a solution, a decoction of thyme, oregano, chamomile, coltsfoot, lavender, sage can be used.
The duration of the procedure is from three to five minutes. The therapeutic course, as a rule, consists of eight or ten procedures.
To prepare a solution for inhalation, you can use the following recipes:
- Decoction of pine buds. For cooking, you need two liters of water and three tablespoons of kidneys. For the procedure, you should bend over the container with the decoction, cover your head with a towel and inhale the vapor.
- The solution with eucalyptus. For preparation, a liter of water and eucalyptus leaves (two tablespoons) are required. Leaves can be replaced with essential oil if necessary. In this case, a few drops are added to hot water and the procedure is carried out.
- Infusion of raspberries (leaves) and (calendula) flowers. For cooking, ten grams of calendula (leaves) and 200 milliliters of water are required. Raspberry infusion is made using twenty grams of raw material per 200 milliliters of water. For inhalation, both solutions should be mixed.
- A fairly popular remedy is mineral water. "Borjomi" or "Narzan" is most often used for inhalation with a cold. Before carrying out the procedures, water must be opened and allowed to stand. Thus, gases will come out of it.
- As a solution for inhalation, you can use a mixture of infusions. The composition may include a decoction of blackberries (leaves and stems) - 20 grams of raw material per 200 milliliters of water, oak bark (10 g per 200 ml), coltsfoot leaves (15 g per 200 ml). 50-60 ml of the mixture is used for one inhalation.
