One of the diseases that you should get sick once in your life and forget about it is rubella. More often, children aged 2 to 10 years are susceptible to infection. Sometimes adults suffer from this ailment as well, who have not had time to get sick in childhood. In fact, the disease is not dangerous, does not require any special treatment. But in order for rubella in a child to be detected on time, every parent should know the symptoms.
How is it manifested?
This disease has a long incubation period.
The first symptoms may appear 11-21 days after infection. Therefore,
rubella in a child often has the following
symptoms : an absolutely healthy baby who has not had contact with carriers in the last days wakes up with a temperature. The level of the thermometer rarely rises above 38.5, but sometimes the disease also proceeds with abnormally high rates. One of the main symptoms is a rash. Small red spots, similar to allergies, appear more often in the first day after an increase in temperature. But sometimes, indeed, this disease is confused with an allergy that occurs against a cold or flu. In fact, this is how
rubella is manifested
in children. Photos of the spots caused by the infection are presented in the article, after studying them, you are unlikely to have doubts.
Symptoms are secondary
As with any other infectious disease, rubella is characterized by loss of appetite and a general deterioration in well-being. The baby can become lethargic, sometimes there is general muscle weakness, drowsiness. The combination of these signs is an occasion to think. Maybe this is rubella in a child? The symptoms described above are sometimes supplemented by a burning sensation in the rash. But more often the disease does not cause discomfort. Another common symptom is swollen lymph nodes. This is also a typical reaction of the body to infectious processes. The lymphatic system is trying to cope with the virus, as a result of which the nodes become inflamed and grow in size. Note that more often initially the rash appears on the face and neck, then slowly descends down the body. But in some patients, spots may appear immediately on the whole body.
How is rubella treated in a child?
The most dangerous thing is to get this disease during pregnancy. The expectant mother is likely to pass on the rubella virus to her baby. However, congenital rubella is also not too dangerous, but such a baby, of course, will need special care in the first weeks of life. Treatment should be started immediately, no matter how harmless the rubella in a child might seem. Symptoms should be classified and appropriate treatment selected.
If you have a cough, you need to gargle and take expectorants or emollients. If a runny nose is observed, you need to pick up drops of a suitable type. You can use medication with a strong increase in temperature. Somehow special care for the skin is not required. If the spots itch, you should try to explain to the baby that it is necessary to endure and do not comb them. Hygiene procedures can be carried out as usual. Places where the skin is too irritated can be smeared with baby cream or panthenol ointment. For babies who have not yet had this disease, vaccination is carried out: first time a year, and then at six years old. Girls are also vaccinated at age 16.
