In the article, we consider the instructions for use for the Vibrocil preparation.
Among the drugs that help cope with nasal congestion, this medication is recommended in pediatrics. Its instructions for use are available, there are several forms of release: gel, dropper bottle and a bottle equipped with a spray. Positive properties are the possibility of using the drug for the treatment of newborns, as well as the minimum number of side effects. How good is this medication? This will be discussed in the article.
Release form
According to the instructions, “Vibrocil” has three forms of release, and each of them must be selected in accordance with the purpose of use and age category: only drops are suitable for infants and newborns, gel and nasal spray cannot be used. But, given the same composition, some experts dispute the recommendation indicated in the instructions.
In pharmaceutical companies, Vibrocil is presented in the following forms:
- A gel intended for topical use (only for the nasal mucosa). In an aluminum tube, its amount is twelve grams. The gel is white, may be a yellowish tinge, it smells of lavender. It is accompanied by instructions, and in the lid there is a tip with which the protective shell is torn. Instructions for "Vibrocil" are available in each pack.
- Nasal spray. Dark glass vials, volume - fifteen milliliters, with a fine atomizer. The solution is colorless, but it has a light aroma of lavender oil.
- Nasal drops. A universal form for all age categories of patients, its format is similar to a spray: the volume of dark glass bottles is fifteen milliliters, there is a pipette in the lid. The vials contain a very liquid content, with the scent of lavender, colorless. Instructions for use for drops in the nose "Vibrocil" is very detailed.
Active components are as follows: dimetindene maleate, phenylephrine.
Auxiliary components of the drug: benzalkonium chloride - 50% solution (converted to benzalkonium chloride); citric acid monohydrate; sodium hydrogen phosphate; water; lavender oil; sorbitol.
How does the medicine work?
According to the instructions, "Vibrocil" is one of the anti-congestants - medicines that fight swelling of the mucosa due to vasoconstriction of the vessels in the nasal passages. They less affect the process of inflammation. Phenylephrine, which is a direct alpha antagonist, is responsible for this, and therefore it can cause an increase in blood pressure. But this effect is no longer as pronounced as that of norepinephrine. The active substance has a prolonged vasoconstrictor effect, however, when following all the dosages indicated in the instructions for use for Vibrocil, it is moderate.
It also helps eliminate swelling of the mucosa in the sinuses of the nose, reduces the process of inflammation in the nasal cavity. The substance dimethindene is less vivid in its effect: it differs in anti-allergic effect, as it is among the antihistamines that affect the H1 receptors. This component is low toxic, has a synthetic nature, is not dangerous for a baby. As part of the drug, it is present not only to combat allergic rhinitis, but also to reduce the severity of undesirable manifestations due to phenylephrine (from the nervous system).
What else does the instruction manual for Vibrocil tell us?
When is it used?
According to official instructions, the drug can be used both for the treatment of the common cold and for prophylactic purposes against the inflammatory process and edema. Local use in the nose is justified only with severe congestion and allergic rhinitis (non-seasonal and seasonal, chronic and acute). Experts note the effectiveness of the drug in the treatment of various types of sinusitis. As a symptomatic medication, it can be used to combat the common cold in children, which is caused by teething or the presence of a cold.
Also in the instructions for the spray and drops "Vibrocil" it is supposed a number of indications for use:
- preparation for surgery for severe pathologies of ENT organs or in the rehabilitation period to prevent or relieve swelling of the nasal mucous membranes;
- complex therapy of acute otitis media of the middle ear in order to prevent complications in the upper respiratory tract;
- to eliminate the symptoms of a runny nose caused by an inflammatory process in the mucous membranes;
- to soften the crust in chronic rhinitis and to eliminate dry mucous membranes (cannot be used systematically, since the opposite effect will be caused), but this indication is relevant only for such a form of the drug as a gel.
Instructions for use with Vibrocil must be strictly followed.
Dosage and route of administration
Before you start spraying, digging in or applying, you need to clean the nasal cavity - rinse (best with a weak chamomile solution or sea water), if possible, remove the crusts. At an older age, children should blow their nose when the degree of congestion allows this. The remaining subtleties of use, including the dosage of the drug, are determined by the age category, the nature of the pathology and the form of release of "Vibrocil".
Drops
In accordance with the instructions for nasal drops "Vibrocil", only this form of the drug can be used to treat infants, which can only be explained by the convenience of its use (but pediatricians do not recommend injecting the medicine into the nasal cavity for babies up to one year old).
It is used intranasally, the frequency depends on the severity of the disease and the patient's age, however, it is advisable to use various local vasoconstrictors only in case of emergency. After the procedure, you need to hold your head thrown back for two minutes.
This is confirmed by the instruction for drops "Vibrocil" for children.
The dosages are as follows:
- Children up to a year are prescribed one drop in each stroke of the nose. The medicine is used up to four times a day, it is best to do this before feeding.
- From one to six years old, a patient drops two drops in each nasal cavity four times.
- Adult patients and children over six years old are allowed to drip four drops in each nasal passage, the frequency of use is the same as in previous cases.
It is better to familiarize yourself with the instructions for use with Vibrocil drops for children in advance.
Gel
If adults appear after nasal injuries, due to a runny nose or for other reasons, crusts that are difficult to remove without additional procedures, or if severe dry nose, nasal congestion is noted at night, a medication in the form of a nasal gel is prescribed. There are several recommendations for use:
- Before use, the nasal passages should be well cleaned;
- squeeze a small amount of the drug (the size of a pea) on the tip of the little finger and insert it into the nose, gently lubricating the mucous membrane of its cavity, try to introduce the gel as far as possible;
- children after six years of age, as well as adult patients, are prescribed the same dosage.
It can be applied up to four times a day. The duration of therapy cannot be more than seven days.
Spray
Instructions for use with Vibrocil in the nose indicate that the nasal spray has the same indications for use as drops. Experts advise patients to use this form from six years of age or adults: its advantage is a more accurate distribution throughout the mucosa, and therefore the solution does not drain into the pharynx along the back wall. Using the spray in accordance with the instructions is made four times a day. A maximum of two pressures is performed in each nasal passage, and during the injection of the drug you need to inhale. The sprayer opens only after removing the tip from the nostrils.
The instruction for use with Vibrocil does not end there.
special instructions
When applied topically, dimethindene is only an antiallergic substance, and therefore does not have a sedative effect on the body. Continuous therapy with spray and drops of “Vibrocil” according to the instructions for use can have a vasoconstrictive systemic effect or cause: tachyphylaxis, drug rhinitis, thinning of the vascular walls of the nasal mucosa, addiction to the drug.
Pregnant women and nursing mothers
The drug has an antiallergic effect on the patient and is distinguished by a vasoconstrictive local effect, without getting further than the mucous epithelium, and therefore does not cause any obvious harm to the fetus and the lactating / pregnant woman. But in the official instructions, it is recommended not to use this drug at this time or to use it once in case of emergency.
What else can you learn from the instructions for use for Vibrocil for children?
Pediatric Use
In accordance with the reviews of doctors and parents, the drug is well tolerated even by newborns. Instructions for use with Vibrocil drops for children allow you to use them immediately after birth.
But at the age of the baby less than a month, it is necessary to discuss the possibility of using with a pediatrician, since the frequency or dosage may decrease. The remaining types of medicine (gel and spray), even if there are no drops in the pharmacy, are forbidden to use for the treatment of children under six years of age.
Drug interaction
In order to avoid conflicts of the active substances of the drugs, the instruction advises not to use Vibrocil simultaneously with tricyclic antidepressants and beta-blockers. You must inform your doctor about taking medication.
Side effects and the possibility of overdose
According to the instructions for use for "Vibrocil", due to local use in accordance with the instructions, the drug causes side effects rarely, mostly they are observed only from the mucosa. This is an increase in burning or dryness. These negative manifestations disappear on their own when the medicine is no longer used. From the reviews, as well as the official instructions, it becomes clear that the drug does not adversely affect the children's body if the child accidentally takes it inside. However, due to the fact that the drug contains phenylephrine, its overdose can cause: fatigue, hypertension, pallor of the skin, dizziness, stomach pain, insomnia, and fever. There is no antidote for Vibrocil, overdose is treated in the classical way: the use of laxatives, the use of activated carbon, the use of clean water in large quantities (for adults and children over six years of age).
Contraindications
Specialists warn patients against the use of Vibrocil if there is diabetes mellitus, pathologies of the cardiovascular system and thyroid gland (especially with hypertension), patient sensitivity to sympathomimetics, and atrophic rhinitis. When using MAO inhibitors, it is necessary to wait two weeks after the final tablet before using phenylephrine-based drugs. If patients have a runny nose, the medication only exacerbates the situation. The instruction for use with Vibrocil confirms this.
Analogs
It is difficult to find a replacement "Vibrocil" with the same composition. In Russia, such funds are presented only under the name “Farmak Milt”, but even in large pharmacies it does not always happen. If we consider drugs that are not combined, which relieve allergic symptoms, but only vasoconstrictors, then it is worth highlighting Snoop, Otrivin, Xylen, Rinopront, Nazivin, Sanorin, Adrianol.
Reviews
The drug "Vibrocil" is quite controversial, according to patients and specialists. Most often, he is prescribed by ENT doctors. In pediatrics, it is generally not recommended; it is undesirable to use it to treat children, especially in the first year of life, since overdoses often occur. Due to the fact that parents do not get an instant result, they re-instill the medicine, and the vessels in the body of the child narrow. The condition can be so serious that the patient needs hospitalization.
About "Vibrocil" in general, reviews are still positive. The drug in its effectiveness is at a good level. It also helps children if used properly. When used for more than a week, a decrease in effectiveness is noted.
Many note that the drug does not cause any discomfort, it has a very pleasant smell, and is stored for a long time.
