Kozlov's "Workshop" is a theater insanely popular in St. Petersburg and beyond. The culprit of such folk love is its founder, Honored Artist of the Russian Federation, Grigory Kozlov.
In 2015, the theater celebrated a double anniversary: ââthe sixtieth anniversary of Grigory Kozlov and the five-year anniversary of the founding of the theater. Actors (and all of them are graduates of the theater studio of G. Kozlov) have been preparing for this date for several months, which Grigory Mikhailovich told about not without surprise and pride.
Theater Creation
The name of the theater, Kozlovâs âWorkshop,â was not accidental, because the word denotes the workplace of professionals in their field. It is here that the formation of artists hardened in fire, water and copper pipes takes place . The chief ideological leader likes to repeat that the theater is a family. And both in the family and on the stage, everything should happen for real.
The most interesting thing is that all the actors are graduates of the theater studio of G.M. Kozlova, where they are affectionately called "kids." The guys are almost the same age, they have known each other for a long time, which allows them to improvise on stage, to create a truly friendly atmosphere.
The internal structure of the theater is such that viewers from their seats perfectly see and hear everything that happens on the stage.
Staging
The repertoire of the theater is the most diverse, more dramatic productions according to Chekhov, Dostoevsky, Bulgakov, Sholokhov. But the game of the guys is so fascinating, everything happens as believable as in life, where there is a place for tragedy and comedy, that the viewer does not understand what kind of performance he came to: comedic or dramatic.
The master himself, as well as his students, are engaged in the productions. Among the latest performances, there is one that is unusual in content. This is a production of Love and Lenin, where the leader of the revolution is shown as an ordinary weak man who loves two women. The director is Roman Gabria. Kozlovâs âWorkshopâ is a theater where a team of artists reacted with great responsibility to the personality of Lenin and even went to Gorki and visited the Ilyich Museum.
The director of the play says that telling people about Lenin is a hopeless and inconvenient thing, no one loves him. They treat him as an odious person, and love is a creative feeling. Therefore, Lenin and love - this is a paradox. The thought creeps in that, having exchanged Krupskaya for Inessa Armand, Ulyanov might not have become the ideological leader of the revolution.
Quiet Don
Kozlovâs workshop is a theater where young artists are involved in the performance âQuiet Donâ. And they play in such a way that, according to the famous theater and film critic Tatyana Moskvina, the viewer understands the author of the novel, his passion, youth, love for his land.
In the first part of the production there is no indifference, no peace, a lot of love, even too much, too much, and you can suffocate from what is raging on stage. Moskvina even quotes Stanislavsky, who owns the words: "Do not play good or bad, you need to play correctly." It is this fidelity that is felt in every scene of the play.
Actors play without any ideology, as if they themselves grew up in the village of Tatarskaya and must mow, plow, give birth, go to war, serve their own country.
Grigory Mikhailovich Kozlov
Grigory Mikhailovich was born in 1955, during the "thaw". In 1976 he entered the Leningrad Shipbuilding Institute, graduated from it and worked as an engineer for three years. At 28, he decided to change his life, and, supported by his mother, entered the directing department of LGITMiK. All his further activities were related to the theater. The director likes to say that he combines business with pleasure: he does what he likes and gets paid for it.
Kozlovâs âWorkshopâ (St. Petersburg Theater), where âeach performance is its own way of talking with the audience, somewhere it must stir up a person, somewhere a person can pour tears over fiction, laugh somewhere, but not thoughtlessly,â - says Grigory Mikhailovich.
Questions to the author
To the question of how the modern artist differs from the artists of past years, the master answers that on the stage, the modern actor needs to think faster and orient. But the most important thing is that he should play about a person.
Young people are becoming more technological, life is hectic, busy, from all sides people get a lot of necessary and unnecessary information. In a word, the environment is changing, but human problems remain.
"Workshop" Kozlova (theater), the audience deserves only the most flattering reviews. All comments are positive, you can say enthusiastic, mostly written by young people. And this is in our time, when young people, it would seem, are more interested in the easy genre.
The director advises youth to read more good literature. He himself in the sixth grade, having missed a week at school, read the entire novel "War and Peace" and remembers the impression made on him. Bulgakovâs âTurbine Daysâ was his grandfatherâs handbook, and Ivan Bunin was and remains a favorite author, according to the stories of which Kozlov staged plays.
Where is the "Workshop" of Kozlov?
The theater is located far from the center, it is difficult to get there without personal transport, but motorists can breathe freely: there is a lot of parking space.
