The American thriller Paul Haggis's "Three Days to Escape" is a Hollywood remake of the French feature film "For Her," nominated for "Cesar." Starring the picture shine Russell Crowe, Elizabeth Banks and Liam Neeson.
Criticism
The project “Three Days to Escape” received mixed reviews from film critics. His IMDb rating is 7.40, on the Rotten Tomatoes review aggregator his average score is 5.9 out of 10, on Metacritic - 52 out of 100.
The main male role in the movie was played by Russell Crowe, who does not leave the list of the highest paid actors. Critics who scolded Haggis' work for the uneven rhythm of the narrative and the implausible plot, among the positive moments call the game Crowe and his on-screen companion Elizabeth Banks. Some contributing authors compared the thriller to the film “The Phantom” by Roman Polanski, due to the abundance of modified Hitchcock techniques adorning the detective line.
The director’s unique handwriting
Almost all reviewers in the reviews of the film “Three Days to Escape” discuss the author’s finds of the director, indicating that Paul Haggis is not only a talented director, but also a great screenwriter. The films "Clash", "Flags of our fathers", "Letters from Iwo Jima", "Baby in a Million" and "Casino Royale", created with his participation, the audience accepted with a bang. In the thriller genre, Haggis is also not a newbie, so the audience was looking forward to the premiere of the new work. And overwhelmingly, the expectations of moviegoers were met, as evidenced by the reviews of the audience.
“Three days to escape”, most reviewers did not find it similar to other films. Many people do not consider the connection with countless adventurous dramas about escaping from the most protected prisons and the like. Paul has an indisputable advantage: he develops seemingly banal conflicts, touches on banal topics, presents the expected conclusions in the finale, but it’s no less interesting to watch his work.
Plot
According to reviews, “Three Days to Escape” has an extraordinary, but very implausible plot.
The story begins with the arrest of Lara (Elizabeth Banks) - the wife of literature professor John Brenner (Russell Crowe). She is being detained due to murder charges. Three years pass, but the husband convinced of the innocence of his wife does not cease to appeal. When the last one deviates, the woman in the cell tries to take her own life. Then John decides to take extreme measures. With the support of an experienced criminal (Liam Neeson), he is preparing to implement a plan to escape his beloved from prison.
John Brenner finds himself in a textbook situation of a respectable layman, who, due to circumstances, is forced to act in an unusual and dangerous criminal world. In this, according to the authors of the reviews, “Three Days to Escape” is especially indicative in the first half, in which the intellectual Crow tries to get fake passports in the ill-fated neighborhoods.
Star trio
Spectators and critics were unanimous in assessing the demonstrated skill of the performers who played the roles of key characters in the movie Three Days to Escape. In the reviews of the actors, even the most skeptical movie experts are praised.
Almost the entire film rests on the shoulders of the magnificent Russell Crowe, who was unconditionally given the main role by the creators and under which Haggis wrote the script. Even the wife of Lara, in comparison with John, is a secondary character. And it should be noted that Crow in the image of Brenner is one hundred percent organic, especially since the hero fits into the traditional character of the performer.
Elizabeth Banks is known to the public for her roles in The Forty-Year-Old Virgin and the movie Zack and Miri Make Porn. The actress does not have so many episodes, but at the same time she plays with patience and authenticity, without a single fake note.
Shaggy and sullen Liam Neeson, despite the fleeting appearance in the frame, looked so realistic that he could more than give odds to any real thief in law.
There is no point in talking about other roles - they are episodic or not memorable against the background of Crowe's greatness.
