How can you make compote from jam?

Why cook compote from jam? Well, firstly, after cooking some dishes, such as sweet pastries, there may be surpluses of boiled fruits or berries preserved for the winter, and secondly, jam can be just last year, and it should be used somehow. It still makes sense to cook such a compote when the guests suddenly came and there was nothing to give them to drink, because there were no berries or compote compotes in the house.

The fastest compote

Compote from jam can be prepared without boiling. To do this, a little jam should be stirred in boiled water. The liquid must be filtered to achieve greater transparency of the drink. For such a compote, it is better to use jam, in which the minimum number of small particles of fruits and berries. For example, apple, quince or cherry jam. But the apricot, raspberries or plums will have to strain then several times to get rid of a large amount of sediment in the drink.

compote in a glass

A white foam may form on the surface of this compote. If this does not bother anyone, then drink like that. She does no harm. Well, if you want to get rid of it, then the liquid can simply be brought to a boil, turned off and cool. So the easiest jam compote is ready.

Stewed with citric acid

Jam - this delicacy is very sweet, because half of its contents is pure sugar. In the compote, you can get rid of this cloying by adding citric acid during cooking.

The process of cooking such a compote begins with the fact that water is poured into the pan and jam is added. About 75 g of jam per liter of water. It all boils for about 5 minutes and then filtered. If, for example, a compote of cherry jam, then filtering it is not necessary.

compote jam

Citric acid should be put here very little. For example, if we get 3 liters of liquid, then only half a teaspoon of acid is needed. Although, of course, you need to add to taste. Do not be discouraged if you have acidified it, because here we have a creative process. The situation can always be corrected with a spoon or two of sugar. After adding citric acid, the drink should be boiled for about another minute, so that everything dissolves properly and mixes irrevocably.

By the way, you can add an ice cube to the compote from jam, or you can even drink it hot as mulled wine.

Jam plus cranberries

Cranberries - the berry is very acidic, and if available, you can use it instead of synthetic citric acid. By the way, cranberries also give their taste and aroma, which is an advantage over citric acid. In general, jirgi jam and cranberries can be considered an ideal combination, but this is not necessary at all. Kitchen experiments are always welcome.

In our case, a handful of cranberries, about a third of a glass of sugar and about the same amount of jam are put in 1 liter of water. The number of products can be varied, so accurate calculations are useless.

muddy compote

All this together must be brought to a boil and cook for about ten minutes. Next, through a sieve or gauze, you need to strain the compote. It is necessary to squeeze out the thickening that remains, so that the remaining liquid gets into the compote. To make the product more transparent, it is advisable to strain it again.

Cool the drink and drink it. It is possible with ice, if suddenly the summer is hot in the yard.

Compote of jam for the winter

In order to close the drink for the winter, if that makes sense, it is better to observe the proportions during the preparation process as written in the recipe. For 1 liter of water, you need to take half a glass of jam, as well as lemon peel in the amount of 1/3 of the whole. All ingredients are placed in one pan and put on fire. Such a compote needs to be boiled for 10 minutes. It also needs to be filtered through clean gauze while it is still very hot.

Now we put the compote on the gas without berries and zest and boil it. This process takes us another 5 minutes. If foam suddenly appears on the surface, it is better to remove it.

Now the compote can be poured into sterile jars and rolled up with sterile lids. Banks should settle under a blanket or something like that day. Then they can be put in the pantry or cleaned in a closet.

In addition, in any of these jam compotes you can add all kinds of ingredients such as ginger, lemon, mint, etc. Here you can experiment with the taste, smell and even the temperature of the drink to fame.
