The drug "Movalis" (instructions describe in detail its effect) has anti-inflammatory, antipyretic and analgesic properties. The active ingredient in it is meloxicam - a substance that belongs to the class of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. In addition to Movalis, meloxicam is part of several drugs of similar action with the trade names Mataren, Amelotex, Meloflam, etc.
Meloxicam is used in the treatment of arthritis, with febrile conditions and inflammatory processes of various nature. It greatly facilitates the patientβs condition with osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, degenerative joint diseases, as well as ankylosing spondylitis (ankylosing spondylitis), a chronic inflammatory disease that affects primarily the spine.
"Movalis", the instruction for which contains a list of recommendations for the use of the drug, is available in the form of tablets, rectal suppositories (suppositories) and an injection for ampoules. Each tablet, except for 7.5 or 15 mg of meloxicam, contains sodium citrate, magnesium stearate, povidone, lactose, etc. Movalis suppositories, in addition to meloxicam (7.5 or 15 mg), include a suppository mass and others Excipients. One Movalis ampoule (1.5 ml) contains 15 mg of meloxicam in the form of a solution for injection - a clear greenish liquid.
The drug is well absorbed after oral administration or rectally. The maximum possible level of meloxicam in blood plasma in this case is achieved within five to six hours, after injection - after about an hour. Its concentration in synovial fluid is usually half that of plasma. When administered intramuscularly, it is absorbed 100%. The half-life of meloxicam is twenty hours after administration.
Medicines containing meloxicam effectively fight pain and inflammatory processes in the joints. However, the use of the drug "Movalis" (the instruction focuses on this) can have quite serious side effects, ranging from itching and urticaria, digestive disorders and abdominal pain to attacks of bronchial asthma and angioedema. Fortunately, these dangerous complications are extremely rare.
Other side effects of Movalis are also possible: increased blood pressure, increased heart rate, and the appearance of edema. Vision problems (blurred images) may also occur, conjunctivitis may develop, and clinical blood counts may also change. The question of the advisability of using the drug "Movalis", the instruction to which describes all the possible negative consequences of its use, is decided in each case with the attending physician. However, it is worth noting that side effects after taking this drug are much less common and pass faster than after other drugs of a similar effect.
The recommended dose of Movalis is 7.5 mg per day. With an exacerbation of ankylosing spondylitis and rheumatoid arthritis, a dose of 15 mg / day is first used, and when a tangible effect is achieved, it is halved. "Movalis" (injection) cannot be prescribed to patients in parallel with anticoagulants. The drug in any dosage form is contraindicated in pregnant women, nursing mothers and children under 15 years of age, as well as those who have already had allergic reactions to other NSAIDs - in particular, to acetylsalicylic acid. The injection instructions that are attached to the Movalis preparation are recommended to be done slowly, and the solution should be administered deeply. Tablets must be taken with meals, washed down with water. It should be remembered that the Movalis solution is not intended for intravenous administration.
