The artist Vasya Lozhkin, whose paintings managed to gain wide recognition among the most diverse public, by his own assurance, never really studied and does not know how to draw. What attracts and fascinates the audience with his strange works?
From the biography of the Russian nugget
Alexey Kudelin, better known as Vasya Lozhkin, began to create his own paintings as a child. And he was born in 1976 in the town of Solnechnogorsk near Moscow. Today, this little-known settlement is easily recognized by the name of the mythical Kobylozavodsk, where many of the artist’s works take place. And the author of the masterpieces still lives in his hometown.
In addition to painting, he is also engaged in literature, composes songs and performs them in a rock band named after his name.
Vasya Lozhkin: paintings, cats and people
The works of a self-taught artist unlike anyone unexpectedly resonated in the souls of so many people. Moreover, this applies equally to those whose childhood fell on the dashing nineties, and those who are much older than the author. Vasya Lozhkin, whose paintings were not put on public display anywhere except virtual space, became widely popular in reality. His images are recognizable at first sight. The world that a surprised viewer sees in the pictures of a Moscow region artist evokes strong emotions. This is what is commonly called laughter through tears. It makes one empathize, resent and wonder, and often causes the viewer to smile from ear to ear.

These cats with human eyes and those men with brutal faces are also close to the viewer. Suddenly, it becomes clear that Vasya Lozhkin, whose paintings at first glance do not seem quite serious, is not talking in a joking tone with the audience. And the popular prints of an amateur artist have a good chance to become part of the Russian classics of the beginning of the third millennium.
Russian lubok
A lot of mysteries were posed by serious art historians by the Moscow region artist Vasya Lozhkin. The paintings, the price of which today fluctuates in a very wide range, have included solid galleries of contemporary art in their permanent exhibits. The author identified the lower price limit of his work at three thousand rubles. And there is simply no top. Serious analysts in the field of art history find many parallels to the work of Vasya Lozhkin in Russian and European painting.
We are primarily talking about popular prints, which from ancient times were presented for purchase and display at the fairgrounds. They enjoyed particular success among the common people. Later, special terms were coined for this artistic phenomenon - “naive” and “primitivism”. But Vasya Lozhkin, whose paintings received unexpected recognition from analysts in the field of aesthetics, is closest to the traditional Russian farce sap.
It is curious to note that patriots do not favor the artist’s work, considering him a malicious slander on Russian reality. But their opinion Vasya Lozhkina does not bother. He creates for his viewers. And it is possible that for eternity.
