Drops "Dexon" - a combined tool that is simultaneously used both in otorhinolaryngology and ophthalmology. They have antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects. Let's take a closer look at this tool and find out what diseases Dexon helps with (eye drops). Instructions for use, composition and other information are presented in the article.
Forms of release of the drug "Dexon"
To begin with, it is worth noting that the Indian manufacturer offers several forms of funds:
- The solution used for intravenous and intramuscular administration.
- Tablets.
- Eye and ear drops are a colorless sterile solution (sometimes light yellow).
- Ointment.
The article will focus on the eye and ear drops of Dexon.
Structure
In 1 ml of the drug in question contains the active ingredients:
- Neomycin sulfate (5 mg) - an antibiotic of the aminoglycoside group with bactericidal properties. It disrupts protein synthesis in microbial cells. It affects most microflora, with the exception of P. Aeruginosa, most streptococci, as well as fungi, anaerobic infections and viruses. Resistance to this antibiotic appears rather weakly and very slowly, which, undoubtedly, is an advantage in the fight against pathogenic microorganisms.
- Dexamethasone sodium phosphate (1 mg) is a glucocorticosteroid that simultaneously has anti-allergic, anti-inflammatory and desensitizing properties. The combination of dexamethasone and an antibacterial agent in Dexon drops reduces the risk of developing an infectious process. Despite the advantages, there is a drawback: a small amount of dexamethasone enters the systemic circulation, which is a potential threat of various side effects.
- Excipients - preservative benzalkonium chloride, disodium hydrogen phosphate, sodium chloride, disodium EDTA, sodium metabisulfite, propylene glycol, creatinine, water for injection.
Indications for use
Dexon is a glucocorticosteroid hormone with not only anti-inflammatory and anti-allergic effects, but also immunosuppressive and anti-shock. Indications for the use of drops are diseases:
- Infectious and allergic pathologies of the outer ear.
- Acute and chronic forms of diseases such as bacterial blepharitis, iridocyclitis, conjunctivitis, keratitis (provided there is no damage to the epithelium).
- Acute and chronic otitis externa.
In addition, Dexon drops are prescribed for prophylactic purposes to prevent inflammation of the anterior part of the eye after various surgical interventions.
Contraindications
The list of contraindications is quite wide:
- Sensitivity to the components of the drug.
- Chickenpox.
- Mycobacterial infections of the eye.
- Keratitis
- Viral diseases of the conjunctiva and cornea.
- Fungal pathology of the eye.
- Lactation period.
- Childhood.
- Application after surgical removal of a foreign object from the cornea of ββthe eye.
Side effects
Like most medicines, Dexona has a number of possible side effects:
- Allergic reactions, justified by the presence of a neomycin antibiotic in the preparation. Manifested in the form of itching, redness of the conjunctiva and swelling of the eyelids.
- Complications of the organ of vision (due to the presence of dexamethasone in the composition) - a slowdown in the healing process, the risk of glaucoma and increased intraocular pressure, damage to the optic nerve, and the formation of a subcapsular cataract.
- The development of a secondary infection (due to the combination of neomycin and dexamethasone) due to the suppression of the body's immunity with an antibiotic while enhancing the inflammatory process.
- Perforation of the fibrous membrane of the eye occurs due to the treatment with drops of diseases leading to thinning of the cornea or sclera.
- Fungal infection, the development of fungal invasion may occur due to prolonged use of the drug "Dexon" (drops).
Instructions for use
1. Treatment of eye diseases. The dosage of the drug, regardless of the disease and its form, is unchanged - 1-2 drops. The difference is only in the frequency of use: for mild and moderate forms of eye disease, the drug should be instilled into the conjunctival sac every 4-6 hours. In severe infectious processes, it is recommended to use the drug every hour, gradually reducing the frequency of instillations as the manifestation of the inflammatory process decreases.
2. Treatment of ear diseases. As noted earlier, in addition to eye diseases, Dexon is also used for ear diseases. Ear drops, regardless of the form of the disease, are instilled 3-4 drops with a frequency of 2-4 times a day until the symptoms disappear completely.
Overdose
Specific cases of overdose of the drug "Dexon" medicine are unknown. However, a local reaction is not excluded with excessive use of drops. If the slightest symptoms of an overdose are detected, it is worth stopping the use of the drug immediately. The main rule - treatment should be symptomatic: a reaction has appeared - drops are not suitable, they should be abandoned in favor of another remedy.
Interaction with other drugs
What drugs is incompatible with Dexon's (drops)? Instructions for use recommend not to combine the drug with such drugs:
- "Streptomycin" (an antibiotic of the aminoglycoside group), "Monomycin" (produced by the fungus Actinomyces circulatus var. Monomycini antibiotic). Reception "Dexons" with the above means can enhance the ototoxic effect - such a combination of chemical compounds can damage the vestibular and hearing aids, up to irreversible consequences.
- Anesthetics (painkillers) should not be combined with Dexona due to possible impairment of neuromuscular transmission.
- M-anticholinergics (blocking M-cholinergic receptors that eliminate or reduce the effects of stimulation of the parasympathetic nerve) - their combined use with the drops in question leads to an increase in intraocular pressure.
Use with other eye drops is possible subject to an interval of at least 10 minutes between the drugs.
special instructions
The manufacturer focuses on the fact that during pregnancy, the use of Dexona is advisable only for urgent need and only when the potential benefit of treatment for the mother is much greater than the risk for the developing fetus.
In addition, breastfeeding is an obstacle to treatment: the components of the drug are excreted in breast milk and can harm the baby. That is why it is strongly recommended that you completely abandon breastfeeding while taking Dexons.
The use of lenses during treatment with drops is prohibited. Care should be taken to ensure that the tip of the vial does not come into contact with other surfaces: otherwise, the risk of reinfection is high.
The simultaneous administration of aminoglycoside antibiotics with Dexona requires regular monitoring of the amount of the drug in the blood serum.
Drug cost
Are Dexon drops expensive? The price of a medicinal product in the regions of Russia averages 120 rubles. You can buy Dexon drops only in a pharmacy, strictly according to the prescription.
Dexon Eye Drops: Analogs
Despite the rather low cost, the drug has analogues. There are several of them:
- Sofradex is a drug with antibacterial and anti-inflammatory effects, used for local use in ophthalmology and for ENT diseases. The composition of the product includes framycetin sulfate, dexamethasone and gramicidin.
- "Maxitrol" is a combined drug, in its composition - dexamethasone, neomycin and polymyxin.
- "Toradec" - the composition of the drug includes tobramycin and dexamethasone, in the aggregate significantly reducing the risk of infection. The tool is effectively used to eliminate the etiological factor of eye pathology.
- "Garazon" is a bactericidal agent, which in addition to auxiliary components contains gentamicin and betamethasone.
Self-replacement of one drug prescribed by a doctor with another is strongly discouraged. Only a doctor is able to assess all possible risks and choose a medicine based on the characteristics of the body of a particular patient.
Take care of yourself - consult a doctor in a timely manner. Be healthy!
