In the costly 2001 film “Brotherhood of the Wolf” (actors: S. L. Bian, V. Cassel, E. Decienne, M. Bellucci, M. Dacascos), French director Christoph Hans and producer Samuel Hadida, who already had successful experience, collaborated collaboration in the movie "The Crying Killer" with the participation of the same Mark Dacascos.
Tribute to martial arts
In this historical and mystical film, the director once again paid tribute to his beloved martial arts, deliberately introducing a character he had invented into the storyline: a brave, silent Indian performed by a well-known kung fu master. But this technique did not save Hans's brainchild from criticism. According to leading filmmakers, only the first third of the timing of the tape to some extent corresponds to the real story that took place in the 60s of the 18th century. Then in the southern province of France - Zhevodan - atrocities an unprecedented monster, passionately exterminating civilians. The rest of the film "Brotherhood of the Wolf" (the actors reluctantly confirmed this fact) resembles a Hollywood mystical-fiction thriller, stuffed with computer special effects.
Plot
The events of the picture unfold in France at the end of the 18th century. Terrible events take place in the southern province of Zhevodin: people disappear, and after their disfigured remains are found in the forest. A wave of superstitious horror swept the local population, rumors of a monstrous gigantic wolf creep around the district. By order of the king, Knight De Fronsac (S. L. Bian) is sent to help the local troops, his task is to exterminate the monster. The presented brief description of the storyline may seem completely uninteresting, but the director managed to present it in such a way that it would be impossible for the viewer to tear himself away from the screen during viewing. The Brotherhood of the Wolf (the actors vied repeatedly told the media about it) has a special exciting atmosphere that can absorb the viewer from the first minutes of the show and not let go until the final credits. Gloomy impassable forests, deserted streets of Zhivodan, flickering figures of white wolves, colorful bright characters - this is a special poetry of the film. The merit in this, of course, is not only the director and screenwriters, but also the actors who created expressive characters.

Non hollywood products
The whole “Brotherhood of the Wolf” (actors, film crew, producers) is “not Hollywood production”: the shooting took place in France, French performers were involved , and quite famous ones. The main character of the film, De Fronsac, an adventurer, naturalist with a clear, sober view of life, a traveler, an expert in taxidermy art, who does not deny witchcraft and mysticism, is a rather complex character. His image was revealed and embodied on the screen by Samuel Le Bian. The French actor has an unusual, outstanding appearance, so he manages to look completely unrecognizable in different paintings. This time he appeared before the viewer as an experienced traveler and hunter. His companion, the Indian Mani, was played by star Crying Freeman Mark Dacascos. The famous category “B” actor , an impressive performer of battle scenes, this time changed the dragon's tattoo to Indian war paint. His character speaks sparingly, but always to the point, Mark plays mostly facial expressions and movements. The camera adores this actor, in addition, the main weapon of the hero of Dacascos in this film is his fists, and he uses them extremely masterfully. The role of the beloved protagonist was played by Emily Decienne. Film critics discerned the huge potential of the young actress.

The main villain and the fatal beauty
The main antagonist of the film was performed by the charismatic Vincent Cassel, known to the audience in such films as “Hatred”, “Doberman”, “Crimson Rivers”. His character is also quite controversial: a secretive, charming aristocrat who hates others, a traveler in Africa, a hunter who has lost his hand. Even in appearance (eagle profile, cruel tenacious look), you can immediately recognize the main villain, skillfully pretending to be a respectable nobleman. But the most magnificent and mysterious character of the film is the beautiful Monica Bellucci, known for her roles in the films "Malena", "Doberman", etc. In the plot of the picture, her character is present not only as a decoration, her heroine is the acting agent of the Pope, tightly hidden in a local brothel. In his project, Hans collected a decent number of movie stars of the first magnitude. This is Samuel Bian, Marc Dacascos, Monica Bellucci, Vincent Cassel. And he did not fail. These actors have long established themselves with magnificent roles and impressive filmography.

Monster
Also, the image of a monster in the film "Brotherhood of the Wolf" should be considered as a successful architechtrate move, which clearly indicates a subtle understanding of the canons of the genre and the highest professionalism. Although the animal is in no hurry to show the beholder, its presence is felt throughout the film: disturbing music, camera passages, etc. The methods are familiar, but they work without fail. It was thought up really well - the animal is in armor, and the authors even at the end of the film did not show who was hiding under it.
