Cinema comedy is a subgenre of cinema, the subject of which is the appearance of the aesthetic subspecies of the comic. Its distinguishing feature is a hyperbolized image of various life inconsistencies that arouse the laughter of the audience.
Comedy films are films with a predominantly humorous or satirical component that not only entertain, but charge with an impressive portion of positive, uplifting. "Black" humor is also quite actively used in the paintings of the designated genre, entice a certain category, which is able to appreciate it in its true worth. There are paintings “for all time”, which are reviewed more than once, which are laughed at all over the world. However, sometimes the picture released for hire is highly appreciated in their own country, but not understood by foreign viewers. The humor of the inhabitants of different states has its own national characteristics. So there appeared conditional labels dividing humor into “English”, “American”, etc.
Hollywood Comedy
Hollywood still holds the mark of the main installer of new trends in world cinema. In the period of the 80-90s, Hollywood filmmakers completely and irrevocably destroyed the orientation of classic comedy films in the indisputable favor of radical skepticism and a liberal outlook in relation to established traditional American virtues. These changes were accompanied by changes in the status of comedies. Foreign comedies of the 80-90s began to appeal to the least "ideologized" members of American society.
New Hollywood movie combinations
Classical American industry created comedies exclusively for evening entertainment. Classic films were addressed primarily to the hyperbolic problems of American society, which is probably why some foreign comedies from the 80s and 90s are incomprehensible to the domestic audience. In the "golden age" of Hollywood, the creators-owners of large studios forged the American dream, brought up the whole nation through film projects. But since the 1980s, the "new" Hollywood has become the dominant trend in the global cinema entertainment market, which has led to the formation of multicorporations. In the era of modern Hollywood, foreign comedies of the 80-90s are released, which are incredibly difficult to comprehend as a “textual” and cultural object. These paintings, with their sensitivity to European influence, can be interpreted as the approach of American cinema to postmodernism.
Director style bet
Unlike modernism, which glorifies the high, unique style, the artistic ideal of avant-garde art, it definitely rejects postmodernism. Despite the fact that the “new” Hollywood of the 80-90s had an unambiguous installation on blockbusters, some directors managed to maintain their unique directorial style. Especially successfully demonstrate his fantastic comedies of the 80-90s. Foreign screenwriters still lead in this subgenre:
- "Ghostbusters".
- "Back to the Future".
- "Death to her face."
- "Junior."
- "Crazy professor."
- "Flabber."
- "My favorite Martian."
- The Knight of Camelot.
- "Men in Black".
Shepherd
Some directors (like Brian De Palma or Steven Spielberg) still adhered to the classic storytelling in style, but they were an exception to the rule. Foreign comedies of the 80-90s are a shepherd of pure water. Instead of a modernist style, they have only a postmodern touch. A pastish is an obvious imitation of uniqueness, that is, the use of linguistic masks, but, unlike parodies, it cancels the satirical stimulus and is ironic. Pastish realized himself through nostalgic films, for example, Christmas foreign comedies of the 80-90s:
- "Swap places".
- "Christmas Holidays".
- Santa Claus, Miracle on 34th Street.
- "Alone at home".
- "Home Alone-2."
- "Christmas Present."
- "Family for rent."
- "I'll be home for Christmas."
Stylistic Innovation
Postmodernism destroyed the classical narrative in favor of quotation, but the directors did not abandon the strong plot, complementing it with the stylistic innovations of European cinema. These were the individual comedies of the 80-90s. Foreign film critics cite as an example the picture with the inimitable Jim Carrey:
- The Cable Guy.
- "Liar, liar."
- “Ace Ventura 1, 2” (1993, 1995).
- "Dumb and Dumber".
- "Mask".
Counter-cultural Utopia
Representatives of the "new" Hollywood created their largely romantic "countercultural" utopia. But it turned out to be short-lived, since in the late 90s Hollywood entered the era of globalization that began, which left no room for the romanticism of single-minded directors. Therefore, listing old foreign comedies of the 80-90s, the layman would rather recall an epic called "Police Academy" (all 7 parts, 1984-1994) than "Batteries are not attached" (1984).
European film industry
The oldest cinema in the world is European. In Europe itself, of course, it is inferior to the American in popularity, but film critics still prefer it. European film schools are considered academic, like most films, although they cannot do without commercial box office films. Often, European cinema is sponsored by the state, unlike the American one.
French films 80-90 years
Foreign comedies shot by French directors are not inferior to American ones in artistic value. The only difference is entertainment. The 80-90s in French cinema were marked by the peak of the popularity of the theater troupe Le Splendid, which was a resounding success on world cinema screens. The “backbone” of this group was the legends of the French film industry: Michel Blanc, Christian Clavier, Marie-Anne Chazelle, Thierry Lermitt, Gerard Junho and Josian Balasco. On their account more than 20 comedy films, half of which were in this time period. In this period of time, the duo of Patrice Leconte and Francis Weber, who created the unique Gerard Depardieu and the unrivaled Pierre Richard, is activated. They tirelessly do Gerard Uri and Claude Zidi. But more successful, happy and fruitful periods fall in the first half of the 80s. Then the best French comedies of the 80-90s were released. Foreign (the list of which is given above), especially American ones, could not compete with them in charm and uniqueness:
- 1981 - “Impeccable reputation”, “Cool girls”.
- 1982 - "Santa Claus-scumbag", "Dukes on vacation."
- 1983 - "African", "The Return of Crazy Recruits", "Dad."
- 1984 - “Adventurers”, “Twin”.
- 1985 - "The Wedding of the Century."
- 1986 - The Fugitives.
German comedy films
In the nineties, German cinema gradually began to “faint”, in which it had been from the beginning of the seventies. For a long time after the Second World War, Germany could not (even tried) to clear the term "national" from the sediment of National Socialism. The state has dragged itself through an exhausting period of denial, controversy and consensus. It escaped from this meat grinder with an eerie sense of guilt and hostility. The “Berlin School of Cinema”, which during this period of time became a monument to sleepy post-industrial Europe, has revived. Literally on the fingers you can count the German comedies of the 80-90s. Foreign, the list of which is given in this publication, was preferred not only by the international community, but also by German viewers:
- The Solar Alley (1999).
- “Oh, this Bob” (1999).
- The Minion of Fate (1988).
- "Cleaner" (TV series, 1980-2008).
Swedish comedies of the 80-90s
In the 80-90s in Sweden, as well as around the world, the decline in cinema attendance continued. But the comedy genre remained quite popular and in demand. During this period, films such as “My Dog's Life” (1985), “The Adventures of Picasso” (1980), “Leif” (1987) and “Charter Flight” (1980) were released. At that time, women directors appeared in Sweden: Marie-Louise Ekman, Marianne Arne and Susanne Osten. Thanks to their efforts, a fair portion of romanticism and sensuality is added to the subgenre. The rest of the Swedish film industry this period of time is characterized by artistic instability, several major film companies are ruined. Initially, the video boom, after the spread of cable and satellite television, seriously undermined the film industry in Sweden. At the same time, cooperation between television and film companies became increasingly closer.
The recession period of Italian cinema
At the same time, Italy also began an inexorable decline in the popularity of cinema, which lasted until the beginning of this century. The legend of cinema, Fellini, creates the last masterpiece “Voice of the Moon” (1990), the master Bertolucci switches exclusively to international projects, famous outside the state, the Taviani brothers continue to create in the historical and ideological direction, Ettore Skola presents the film “Family” to the world ( 1986). The only one who continues to work on comedy films is Pupi Avati, his work “Christmas Present” (1986) and “School Walk” (1983) belong to the category “Youth Comedies of the 80-90s”. Foreign directors immediately take over his experience, and a subgenre stands out in the cinema. Towards the end of the 1990s, Italian comedies acquired the features of a “cabaret” inherent in successful television projects, most of which were shot by the “comic three” - unsurpassed by Aldo, Giovanni & Giacomo: “Such is life” (1998), “Three Men and a Leg” ( 1997) and others.
Free english movie
A new wave of English cinema, called independent, or free, was provoked by a group of "angry." In the 80s they advanced their theory of art. With their works, ardent followers of the new wave suggested that the viewer take a look at the life of the British from a position of critical realism, be interested in the present, and not the past. In the game cinema and in a few comedies during this period, a protest against reality sounded more harshly: "Features of a bachelor party" (1994), "Fad" (1986).
