'Claritin' for children is an effective drug for allergies

Spring and summer bring not only pleasant weather conditions, but also a surge in allergic conditions. The problem of allergies has long ceased to be an unpleasant disease of a small number of people, it takes on a systemic character. Unfortunately, a similar reaction of the body to external stimuli has become more common in children. The requirements for children's drugs are particularly stringent in terms of safety for a growing organism. At the same time, the drug should be effective, with a minimum list of contraindications. These include "Claritin", for children - syrup, for adults - tablets.

"Claritin" is a drug that has a pronounced anti-allergic and sedative effect. The medicine is released in the form of tablets (10 mg of active ingredient in each); syrup in dark glass bottles of 60 or 120 ml (active substance concentration 1 mg per 1 ml of syrup), a measuring spoon is attached. It belongs to the class of antihistamines with selective inhibition of H1 receptors. The effect of taking the drug manifests itself after 1 to 3 hours and lasts throughout the day. Safe Claritin for children over twelve years old is taken inside. The medicine is not addictive. Resistance to the substance does not develop. Even with prolonged use at maximum dosages, it does not cause a significant increase in the QT interval on the ECG. The drug is excreted in the form of unchanged substances and metabolites with bile and urine.

Choosing for treatment should be "Claritin" syrup as a form of medicine for babies, since it does not cause discomfort at the time of administration, and the first signs of relief are visible after 20 minutes.

The drug is indicated for allergic rhinitis and allergic dermatitis. It is also used for psoriasis to eliminate the unpleasant manifestations of an allergic reaction, which can lead to rashes.

Unlike similar antihistamines, which can be taken no more than 10 days in a row, Claritin is recommended for long-term treatment. It has a multilateral effect on the body, contributes to a more effective treatment of bronchial asthma, atopic dermatitis, acting in combination with the main treatment.

"Claritin" for children from 12 years old, adults, including elderly patients, is dosed in the amount of 1 tablet (10 mg) 1 time per day (or 2 teaspoons for syrup). Claritin for children weighing less than 30 kg is prescribed in the amount of 5 ml of syrup (or 5 mg in the case of a tablet form). The drug for children with a body weight exceeding 30 kg is prescribed in an adult dosage. In renal failure, the drug is used once every two days in an amount of 10 mg.

The frequency of side effects when taking the drug does not differ from that in the case of taking a placebo. In the activity of the gastrointestinal tract mild dyspeptic symptoms are possible , rarely hepatitis. Rare cases of anaphylactic reactions, skin rash are possible. From the nervous system, sedation, drowsiness (in adults), headache, nervousness can be noted. In adults, isolated cases of alopecia have been reported. Side effects include nausea, dry mouth, gastritis, vomiting, and increased fatigue. The use of Claritin in children under 12 years of age can lead to hyperactivity and irritability.

The drug is contraindicated for children under two years of age, during the period of breastfeeding, with intolerance to the body of the components of the drug. Pregnant appointed only in case of emergency. With a pronounced overdose (taking 40 - 180 mg of the active substance or more), tachycardia, drowsiness (in adults), headache, extrapyramidal disorders (in children) are possible.
