The cinema genre of space fiction has been in demand for quite some time. Just think, almost 90 years have passed from the protazan masterpiece “Aelita” to the recently released “Gravity” and “Ender Games” screens!
Do you remember how it all began
In a bold and cold Soviet Russia, it was a very bold step to take and shoot (just a year after the release of Aleksey Tolstoy’s best-selling Aelit, which became, as one would say, the first full-length film in the history of world cinema). However, this happened. And the infernal beauty of Yulia Solntseva (Martian), and the nobleness of engineer Los (Nikolai Tseretelli), and the great debut of the great Igor Ilyinsky, as well as Mars itself (as Soviet artists represented it), exhausted by the civil war Moscow - everything was preserved on film. Isn't this a miracle? So cinema fantasy about space began.
Middle-aged people probably recall with endless nostalgia the work of Richard Viktorov “Moscow-Cassiopeia” and the “Youths in the Universe” shot after it. Today, the adventures of schoolchildren in the early 1970s in the vastness of other worlds and the then special effects seem naive. However, then this was also an achievement! After all, films about space are fiction and rarity at that time. American masterpieces from the USSR are still so far away (the Cold War in full bloom).
Classics SubgenreIf we talk about modern foreign cinema, then several directors appeared indisputable authorities, "trendsetters" of the sub-genre of "science fiction about space". One of them is Stanley Kubrick and his repeatedly cited (especially the zero gravity scene under the immortal waltz of Strauss) film “2001: A Space Odyssey”. Maybe someone is annoyed that only at the 25th minute of the timing the first word is heard. However, the fact that this is good science fiction about space and a cult thing is undeniable. Another classic is George Lucas, the creator of Star Wars, who shot more than three years ago three parts of the franchise, and years later returned to the topic and put the three other series of prequels to the already beloved episodes. Ahead is the continuation, the premiere is scheduled for 2015. In the list of actors you can see familiar surnames: “veteran” Solo - Harrison Ford, the legendary Leia - Carrie Fisher, Luke - Mark Hamill. It’s hard to imagine how everything will be. Ridley Scott began the saga of "strangers," James Cameron brilliantly continued, the grim third part was directed by David Fincher. The completion of the franchise was not triumphant, despite the presence of the same Weaver and Winona Ryder. However, these are all examples of what space science fiction should be like.

Through hardship to the stars
The list of interesting and exciting representatives of this subgenre of cinema is great. Tim Burton Utopia with Mark Wahlberg “Planet of the Apes”. The sparkling film “The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy”, where viewers first noticed the Briton Martin Freeman (future Watson and the hobbit Bilbo). Steven Soderberg’s remake of “Solaris” with George Clooney (the picture did not become a complete cast of Tarkovsky’s work, it turned out to be uneven, but also worthy of respect). Mythic "Armageddon" by Michael Bay with one of the best roles of Bruce Willis. One can not help but recall the parody films, which are also science fiction about space. The Sixth Element with Leslie Nielsen, the mischievous Cosmic Eggs of the sparkling Mel Brooks, the German Space Watch. Episode 1 ".
The ratings and fees of the recently released Gravity Alfonso Cuarona are already going wild. So, the genre is alive and in demand. For its development there are forces, means and the desire of directors to dare to continue.
