Acute trachitis is an inflammatory process that develops in the mucous membrane of the trachea. This disease can occur in people of any age, but most often occurs in the elderly and children. As a rule, trachitis occurs not as an independent disease, but together with pharyngitis, laryngitis or rhinitis. An acute runny nose, the treatment of which many do not pay due attention to, can lead to the development of a disease such as acute frontitis - inflammation of the frontal sinus, as well as other types of sinusitis.
Acute trachitis is manifested by sore throat and bouts of dry cough, which most often occur at night or immediately after waking up. It should be noted and some features that are characteristic of this particular disease.
- Coughing is intermittent. Especially severe attacks are mainly observed in the morning;
- When coughing, there are quite severe pains in the throat, and in some cases behind the sternum, which can persist even after the attack has already passed.
Acute trachitis is mainly caused by pneumococci and sticks of influenza, and staphylococcal infections are much less likely to be affected. To provoke the occurrence of an acute form of this disease can be too dry or cold air, which has to breathe for a long time. Often, trachitis occurs with severe cooling of the body, as well as with adverse environmental conditions at work or in the place of residence. Sometimes some pathological changes in the lungs and heart become the cause of the disease.
The inflammatory process that occurs in the trachea causes the release of a rather viscous secretion, which may be mucous, purulent or mixed. In addition, the body temperature rises, a feeling of weakness appears, migraines often occur, and the voice becomes hoarse. Trachitis is a disease in which severe swelling of the mucous membrane of the trachea is observed, and if you do not pay attention to the symptoms and do not carry out timely treatment, the process will progress and become chronic.
Due to the fact that acute trachitis most often occurs under the influence of infection, various antibiotics are often prescribed for its treatment. Such therapy, of course, gives a good result, but more and more patients are poorly tolerated by some components of such drugs. Therefore, if the disease is mild, then most experts recommend abandoning the use of potent drugs. In extreme cases, you can use antibacterial agents in the form of inhalation, which will allow you to evenly distribute them on the surface of the inflamed mucous membrane and significantly reduce the dose of drugs used. If the symptoms of the disease are not very pronounced, then antihistamines, antitussive, antiviral, and expectorant drugs are prescribed.
Quite often, treatment with the use of folk remedies is effective. To do this, use such medicinal plants as sage, eucalyptus, chamomile, mint, coltsfoot and some others. It is recommended to gargle with them or use an inhaler.
Acute trachitis can occur in children of any age, including infants. Before you begin the independent treatment of a child, you should definitely consult a pediatrician to avoid any complications. Usually in this case, trachea is treated with inhalations and various warming procedures - banks, mustard plasters, etc. A good effect is obtained by rubbing the breast with Doctor MOM balm if you carry out such a procedure from the first day of the onset of the disease.
Do not forget about such simple methods of preventing trachitis as maintaining a healthy lifestyle, regular hardening and a balanced diet that will improve immunity and the body itself can successfully resist various infections.
