The nail has grown into a finger: causes and treatment

The disease, when the nail has grown into a finger, is called onychocryptosis. Quite often this occurs on the feet. When the nail plate grows into the lateral part of the nail roller, the inflammatory process begins in the soft tissues of the finger.

The skin around turns red, there is swelling and quite strong pain. In fact, a disease when a nail has grown into a finger is quite common, but not everyone attaches importance to it until the pain becomes unbearable.

Why is this happening? There can be three reasons in this case. The first and main one is the incorrect cutting of the nail plate. Most often, we try to cut the nail as short as possible, although the edges should be left quite high, and not try to capture as much as possible with the sharp ends of the scissors. In this case, it turns out that with the growth of the nail plate rests on the nail roller, the result is that the nail has grown into the finger.

The next reason is to wear uncomfortable, narrow shoes. Basically, this applies to girls who prefer comfortable shoes to model. In this case, at the first signs of the disease, it is better to simply change the shoes to more practical ones.

Another point is onychomycosis. This is a fungal infection that causes pathology of the nail plate, that is, its deformation. In this disease, if just a nail has grown into a finger, this is the initial stage, but if untreated, there will be a permanent wound in this place, which will go further down the foot. By the way, such a disease is most often transmitted genetically, so if it is found in the next of kin it is better to be fully equipped.

An indirect cause of the appearance of an ingrown nail can also be called a sharp increase in body weight, when too much stress is placed on the foot. It is worth noting that the consequences can be very serious: fever, even blood poisoning.

Treatment of onychocryptosis can be divided into two types: conservative and surgical. A conservative method is resorted to by those who have the disease at an early stage, in which case a specialist in a nail salon will be able to help. The procedures are different: nail extension (the old one is cut off and built up with the help of a gel, which subsequently ensures smooth growth) and correction with the help of plates, springs and other devices. The nail rises, the wound is treated and begins to heal, and the nail plate continues to grow correctly.

The surgical method is used for advanced disease. In the old days, you would be offered to simply remove the entire nail plate, but now there are more gentle methods. Laser removal of ingrown toenails is one such technique.

In this case, the excess is burned that did not find a way out and has grown into the skin. After that, the nail begins to grow evenly. There is another method - radio waves. Here, on the ingrown nail (photo can be seen in the article), under local anesthesia, they are exposed to a radio beam, not only on the plate itself, but also on damaged skin.

Based on the foregoing, we can say that you should not wear tight shoes, you need to carefully monitor the hygiene of your legs, as well as conduct high-quality, better professional pedicures.
