The Academic Youth Theater (Rostov-on-Don) begins its history in the 19th century. Today his repertoire is diverse, wide and designed not only for children and youth, but also for an adult audience.
About the theater
The first theater in Rostov appeared in the late 19th century. For him, his own building was immediately built. The scene was pretty big. The auditorium consisted of three tiers and could accommodate up to 700 spectators. During the construction, in the upper parts of the walls (under the ceiling) amphorae were walled up with their neck down. This provided excellent acoustics.
In 1929, another theater already settled in this building - the Working Youth. He occupied this room for only a few months. Then the building was given over to the newly opened Youth Theater, which was founded by director A. Nesterova.
In the postwar years, the premises were occupied by the Comedy Theater. He experienced reorganization several times. The first happened in 1957. Then the theater turned into the Drama Youth named after the Lenin Komsomol. The second reorganization took place in 1964. The drama theater has become a youth theater.
In 1983, his building underwent large-scale reconstruction. As a result, its area increased, new rooms, dressing rooms, two new scenes appeared.
After the reconstruction, the theater opened updated. In his repertoire, performances appeared that did not fit into the format of the Youth Theater. As a result, the troupe forced the public to speak about themselves not only in our country, but also abroad.
In 1997, the Youth Theater received the honorary title of Academic. And in 2001, he went through another reorganization, and since then has been called the Youth Theater of Rostov-on-Don.
Today the troupe actively participates in festivals and goes on tour.
