Nowadays, retinal diseases are very common. The explanation is very simple - computers and phones that have become so popular adversely affect vision. That is why various eye diseases are increasingly found in adolescence and even childhood.
So, what is
cataract eyes nowadays, almost everyone knows. Her symptoms, treatment, the danger she presents - all this is known. But few know about one of its possible consequences.
So, cataracts can cause amblyopia, a disease in which one of the eyes almost completely stops functioning. Due to this feature of amblyopia, it received a different name - a lazy eye.
In fairness, it should be noted that the cause of amblyopia can be not only cataracts. There are several different situations in which this disease can develop. For reasons of occurrence, amblyopia is divided into several types.
So, the lazy eye, which arose as a result of strabismus, is called dibinocular. Refractive - resulting from a high degree of myopia or farsightedness.
Hysterical amblyopia can develop due to severe emotional stress, and obscuration due to a violation of retinal lighting, which can be caused by cataracts, a change in the position of the vitreous body, as well as trauma.
With a strong difference in eyesight (3 diopters or more), an anisometropic form of the disease can develop.
Lazy eye brings its owner a sufficiently large number of various problems, up to complete or partial blindness. To understand how serious everything is, it is necessary to analyze in detail the mechanism of development of this disease.
So, with amblyopia, one eye always sees worse than the other, as a result of which two different pictures enter the brain. In order to avoid confusion and double vision, the brain gradually โturns offโ the weakest eye, which leads to partial blindness - from this moment a person can examine anything with only one eye.
However, the problems do not end there: one eye cannot give a full view, the depth, volume and distance cease to differ completely. Due to constant tension, pain in the eyes may appear, redness, burning, intraocular pressure may increase. In the end, a healthy eye can not stand the strain and also go blind.
Diagnosing a lazy eye in childhood (up to 11 years) is the most difficult, but it is during this period that it can be completely cured. The first symptoms of this disease are slight strabismus, poor vision of one of the eyes, impaired depth perception, lack of fixation of the gaze, closing of one of the eyes when focusing the vision (for example, when reading), deterioration of central and peripheral vision.
Unfortunately, in adults it is almost impossible to cure a lazy eye, but it is quite possible to improve the condition and prevent blindness. Putting a blindfold on a healthy eye and wearing properly selected lenses is very effective.
A surgical intervention can also give a good effect, but eye surgery is always a risk, so you should resort to it only as a last resort.
