Hellhounds in the "Supernatural" (photo)

The multimillion-dollar army of fans of the popular Supernatural series does not have to be surprised at the inventiveness of the project’s writers, who every season manage to present to the public a variety of creatures that penetrate our world and carry a certain mission. Among their diversity, there is a mythical creation in the form of a dog, which the characters of the project call hellish dogs. In the "Supernatural," they were created by God, but turned out to be too cruel. The Almighty was about to correct his mistake and destroy the entire population. He practically managed to realize his plan, but one creature saved Lucifer. The hell hound Ramsey was pregnant, she remained loyal to Lucifer, and her descendants inhabited the Underworld, following the instructions of the demons.

Description

Hell dogs in Supernatural are mythical creatures in the form of a dog. Most often, they are credited with gigantic sizes, eyes sparkling or glowing with red fire, tremendous strength and impressive speed. The entity has a phantom or ghostly shape, surrounded by a halo of bad smell. The scope of their duties includes guarding the world of the dead, executing orders directly related to it, that is, hunting for lost souls or protecting supernatural artifacts.

They are seen only by those unfortunate people whom they are hunting for, or people who have put on glasses, previously tempered in the sacred flame of church oil. Like Dean and Sam when they were testing to close the gates of hell (episode "Trial and Error"). Most often, animals take the souls of those unfortunates who, having made a deal with the demon, sold their souls. If you recall Crowley’s monologue in The Supernatural, hell dogs are best known to him (season 5, episode 20), his pet is quite large and his name is Juliet.

Monsters of unknown breed

By the way, there are disagreements among fans of the show about the breed of these monstrous dogs. Most often they are defined as hounds or Dobermans, sometimes as wolfhounds, even less often considered bulldogs or mastiffs. Therefore, the breed of infernal dogs in the "Supernatural" is not defined reliably. The creators explain it simply: those who saw them usually do not survive. But in the ancient books kept by Bobby Singer, they are depicted in sizes comparable to a horse with flaming eyes. It is also said that the dogs are ferocious and insatiable, only their own death can prevent them from overtaking the victim. They are unshakable, smart and not inclined to improvisations. Witch bags can temporarily knock down dogs from the trail.

Abilities

In the series “Supernatural”, hellish dogs have super-speed, they run many times faster than humans, therefore they overtake a victim without much difficulty. Their vision is particularly acute, and the sense of smell is characterized as hypersensitive. They are the best hunters inexorably overtaking the claimed victim. The creature’s abilities include invisibility to the eyes of the average person, only demons or those who are armed with glasses whose glasses are burnt with holy oil can see them freely. The powers of mythical animals send forth hallucinogenic visions that cause panic in the souls of the persecuted.

disadvantages

Hellhounds from the Supernatural are not omnipotent and relatively vulnerable. They can be destroyed by stronger creatures such as Death, God, angels and archangels, Darkness and demons of the highest rank. Ordinary salt is capable of containing the onslaught of creatures, the barrier from which they cannot cross the barrier, but can blow it away. Grave dust has the same effect. The contents of the witch sacs, although it is not known exactly which mixture they contain, knocks the dogs off the track, sometimes acting like salt. To kill infernal dogs, an Angel Blade, a Ruby knife, Colt, and other more powerful supernatural weapons can be used. The devil’s cord (plant, subspecies of viburnum) left on the doorframe or stuck near the threshold can scare away the devil’s animals. And surprisingly, an ordinary tourist ax can hurt the hound, therefore, scare away the infernal dogs (Supernatural, series “Somewhere Between Paradise and Hell”).

Having assessed the full potential of mythical creatures, it remains only to calculate how many episodes in the “Supernatural” infernal dogs are full participants in the story. Animals were first introduced into the plot in the second season, subsequently appearing in separate episodes of the 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, 8th, 9th, 11th and 12th seasons.

Acquaintance of the audience with an aggressive essence took place in the eighth episode of the second season of the project called “Blues at the Crossroads”. According to the authors' idea, the central characters of the Winchester brothers, when visiting the Lloyd's bar during the investigation of the chain of mysterious deaths, learn about a nearby intersection. Suspecting the intervention of demonic forces, namely that the Hellhound is behind all the killings, Dean and Sam are trying to put an invisible entity to continue the reprisal. They summon the demon of the crossroads who made deals with the residents, with the intention of expelling him. They manage to save only one potential victim, a man who sold his soul for curing his wife of cancer.

When the clock strikes 12 ...

The next meeting of the audience with the infernal dogs took place only in the third season in episode 15, called "Time is on my side."

During the investigation of the case of the surgeon Benton, who killed people in order to change worn parts of the body and live forever, the brothers receive information about the whereabouts of the fraudster and swindler Bela Talbot, who stole the treasured Colt from the hunters. Dean, intending to eliminate Bela, finds out her secret and notices a diabolical string in the door jamb, the very plant that is able to restrain the onslaught of hell dogs for a certain time. He leaves, the clock strikes midnight, and Bela hears the approaching dog howl.

Literally in the next episode, “The Devil on the Horns,” mythical creatures come for Dean to drag him to the underworld. The brothers are trying hard to destroy Lilith, who owns Dean's contract, but all their efforts are fruitless. Leaving the child’s body, the demon moves into Ruby, neutralizes Sam, throws Dean onto the table and lets the hounds into the room. Dean dies in terrible agony.

After such a finale, many viewers were simply discouraged. They could only guess what would happen next in the "Supernatural." In what series will the hellish dogs go hunting again, and who will be their next victim.
