The drug "Midokalm" is a muscle relaxant that acts on the central nervous system. Local anesthetic and membrane stabilizing effect, decrease in pain sensitivity of nerve peripheral endings, inhibition of impulses in motor and afferent primary fibers - all these effects are the result of exposure to the drug "Midokalm". Indications for use of this drug may be the following: diseases of the spinal cord or brain, which are accompanied by muscle cramps.
The composition of the drug "Midokalm"
One tablet contains 50 milligrams of the active substance - tolperisone hydrochloride. Excipients are citric acid monohydrate, colloidal silicon dioxide , stearic acid, microcrystalline cellulose, talc, corn starch, milk sugar (lactose).
The tablet itself is coated with a white or almost white film membrane, which consists of the following components: colloidal silicon dioxide, titanium dioxide, milk sugar (lactose), macrogol 6000, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (hypromellose).
Form of medication "Midokalm"
These are biconvex, round-shaped tablets with a characteristic faint odor. At the fracture is almost white or pure white.

Prescribe a medicine in the case of diagnosis of diseases of the central nervous system, which are accompanied by an excessive increase in the tone of striated muscles:
- cerebral and spinal paralysis with a high tone;
- contractures of the extremities resulting from spinal cord injury;
- paraplegia, paraparesis;
- multiple sclerosis;
- spinal rheumatism and other diseases that are accompanied by dystonia, stiffness and cramping.
The drug "Midokalm" is also prescribed:
- with osteochondrosis, namely with the appearance of extravertebral syndromes (muscle spasm, scoliosis);
- with a disorder of movements, the origin of which is associated with extrapyramidal diseases (for example: arteriosclerotic and postencephalitic parkinsonism);
- with an increase in the tone of muscle fibers of pyramidal origin.
Sometimes use means "Midokalm" for children. This usually occurs in case of a mental disorder or epilepsy, the origin of which is associated with encephalopathy. This drug is also used to reduce the risk of traumatic complications during electroconvulsive therapy.

Medokalm medication should not be used with hypersensitivity (including lidocaine), with pregnancy and severe myasthenia gravis. Children under one year of age should not take the drug "Midokalm" in tablets. Also, the drug "Midokalm" should not be used for hypotension. Indications for use do not recommend this.
During lactation, while taking this drug, you should temporarily stop breastfeeding.
What undesirable effects may occur when taking the drug "Midokalm"
Side effects: headache, muscle weakness, vomiting, nausea, discomfort in the stomach, decreased blood pressure. In rare cases, an allergy may develop in the form of skin itching, urticaria, erythema, anaphylactic shock, angioedema, shortness of breath or bronchospasm. As a rule, with a decrease in dosage, all side effects go away.
