Tetracycline Ointment

Ophthalmic tetracycline ointment is a bacteriostatic antibiotic. The drug has a yellow color, is available in aluminum tubes of three, seven and ten grams.

Ophthalmic tetracycline ointment allows you to cope with a large number of gram-positive microorganisms.

The drug is used for therapeutic purposes with chlamydial and bacterial eye infections such as blepharoconjunctivitis, barley, keratitis, blepharitis, trachoma, keratoconjunctivitis, eye lesions with rosacea.

The drug is applied topically. The ointment is laid for the lower eyelid from three to five times during the day. The duration of the therapeutic course is determined by the form of the disease present. So, for example, the duration of treatment of trachoma is from one to two (in some cases, more) months.

The use of the drug, especially over a long time, can cause various side effects. These include vomiting, diarrhea, swelling, anorexia, allergic reactions. Ophthalmic tetracycline ointment in some cases provokes changes in the oral mucosa and gastrointestinal tract in the form of inflammation in the tongue, stomach, rectum, stomatitis, gastritis, proctitis, etc.

The drug may affect the sensitivity of the skin to the action of sunlight, increasing it. When using such a medicine as tetracycline eye ointment for children in the first months after birth, the medication may be deposited in dentin and tooth enamel. This is manifested in the dark yellow color of the teeth.

Tetracycline ophthalmic ointment has some contraindications. The drug is not recommended for hypersensitivity to it and related antibiotics (Doxycycline, Oxytetracycline and others). Ointment is contraindicated for people with fungal infections, renal and hepatic pathologies, leukopenia (low white blood cell count). With extreme caution, the medication is used in children under eight years of age, as well as in patients with an allergic reaction in the medical history (history). The advisability of using tetracycline ointment during pregnancy and lactation is determined exclusively by the attending physician. Moreover, as a rule, antibiotics of this group are not prescribed during the antenatal period.

Use of the drug may cause blurred vision. As a rule, this condition quickly disappears and does not apply to the reasons for which the cancellation of the funds is necessary. However, it should be noted that in case of prolonged visual disturbances it is necessary to visit a doctor.

The drug is not used for punctured or deep wounds, as well as for severe burns.

If any side effects occur, you should immediately consult a doctor. The attending physician may suspend treatment or prescribe another antibiotic that is not part of the tetracycline group. Throughout the entire therapeutic course, strict monitoring of the condition and analysis of the patient is necessary.

It should be noted that due to the relatively high prevalence of tetracycline-resistant strains in recent years and often manifested adverse reactions, the use of this antibiotic medication is relatively limited.
