In May 2016, the fantastic action movie Duncan Jones โWarcraftโ, based on the game of the same name, was released worldwide. At the moment, this work is the most successful film adaptation of a computer game in the history of cinema. Actors of the film "Warcraft", carefully selected by the production staff, played an important role in the popularity of the picture.
Production
The screen version of the popular computer game Warcraft has been under development since 2006. The script and plot variations have been rewritten several times. It was originally planned that Uwe Boll, who had already worked on such a project, would be in the director's chair, but he was refused to sell the copyright. Perhaps this was due to the deafening failure of his painting "In the Name of the King" in 2007. Sam Raimi was interested in working on the film, but he was eventually replaced by John Duncan.
Casting has been held since September 2013. The actors of the film "Warcraft" were approved in March 2014, after which an intensive filming process began, which lasted four months. It was planned that the film will be released worldwide in mid-December 2015, but due to the release of the Star Wars blockbuster, the premiere was postponed. In the end, fans were able to see the long-awaited picture based on the game only in May 2016.
Cast
Actors of the film "Warcraft" for the most part are very famous. The role of Medivh was played by Ben Foster, the star of the films X-Men, 30 Days of Night, and Birds of America. The character of King Llane was embodied on the screen by Dominic Cooper, known for his participation in the projects "The Devil's Double" and "Reason and Feelings". Other actors in the Warcraft movie worth mentioning are Travis Fimmel, who played Anduin Lothar, and Ruth Neggra, for whom the role in the film became the most prominent in his career. The director was Duncan Jones, known for his Source Code.
Reviews and Fees
The picture was coldly received by critics and received mostly negative reviews. An indistinct plot was noted, the characters of the main characters were ill-conceived, and an abundance of visual effects was difficult for perception.
Viewers, on the contrary, appreciated the picture for the dynamic plot and visual effects. However, the negative reaction of critics broke the dreams of the creators of the sequel to the film "Warcraft". The film, actors and director have not received any awards.
"Warcraft" was the most successful adaptation of the game in history. The film grossed more than $ 430 million at the box office, overtaking Prince of Peria, Silent Hill and Bloodrain. However, taking into account considerable marketing expenses, the film did not bring tremendous profit.
