In this article, we will tell you about the unique Soviet-era crime drama based on the novel The World Is in Your Pocket, by James H. Chase, the movie Mirage (1983). Actors, photos and names of which will be presented in the article, were shot here impressive, Latvian. But the picture is distinguished not only by the fact that it was created at the Riga film studio. Director Alois Branch managed to strengthen the social aspect and arouse the sympathy of the audience for the criminals. Over the course of three episodes, their sympathy is clearly on the side of the robbers, and the final jump from Mount Ginny and Al responds with pain in the hearts of the audience.
Short story, love line
Several people who find themselves in a difficult situation are planning a daring crime - the abduction of a collection armored car, inside of which there are three million dollars. The initiator is a desperate girl named Ginny (Mirdza Martinsone), who was not paid insurance for her deceased father, because they considered suicide as the cause of his death. In the group hastily assembled by the real criminal Frank Morgan (Regimantas Adomaitis), there is a former boxer Al Kitson (Martins Wilsons), who does not support the robbery plan.
He takes part in it only because he falls in love with the beautiful Ginny. This will lead them both to a fatal ending, since everything will initially go wrong in the intended scenario. The actors of the film "Mirage" play so reliably that none of the audience could remain indifferent to the history of such a short and so tragic love. It should be said that the dubbing was carried out by other actors who spoke Russian without an accent: Irina Gubanova spoke in the voice of Ginny, and Alexey Pankin spoke in Ela.
Actors who played Al and Ginny
66-year-old Mirdza Martinsone still lives in Latvia, plays in the Art Theater (Dailes teātris) and almost does not act in films. But in the days of the USSR, it was a sought-after actress who began her film career back in 1970.
Prior to her starring role, her track record totaled 13 works: Lady Anna in “Arrows of Robin Hood”, Edith in “This Dangerous Door to the Balcony”, Bessie Beatty in “Red Bells”. But the real recognition was brought to her precisely by the film “Mirage” (1983), whose actors were forever included in the golden fund of Russian cinema. By the way, in the picture of the policeman, her husband Martins Verdins played with whom, unfortunately, they later divorced.
Martins Wilsons is a native of the Magadan Region. Having Polish-Latvian roots, he was born at a time when his parents were in exile. He served in the SA. The role of Al became a debut in his film career after graduating from the theater department of the Latvian State Conservatory. Later, the actor played on the stage of the theater in Liepaja, founded his own studio. At the moment he is 62 years old, and his name sometimes appears in movie credits, where you want to play colorful foreigners.
Other gang members in the movie Mirage (1983): actors and roles
One of the most sought-after actors of the Soviet period, employed in the film being described, is Regimantas Adomaitis, who created the image of Morgan. People's Artist of the USSR today is already 80 years old, but he still plays on the stage of the National Drama Theater of Lithuania.
Surprisingly, the talented actor is a physicist in his first education. Only after graduating from university Adomaitis entered to study as an actor. He is Lithuanian by nationality, but was invited by the director of the Riga Studio as one of the most famous Baltic artists. Success came to him immediately after participating in the picture alakevicius “Nobody wanted to die” (1965). Voiced the role of Philip Jaworski.
Friend Frank, who fought in Vietnam, embodied on the screen Ints Burans (dubbing - Boris Bystrov). It was from a random shot by Black that a series of setbacks followed, pursuing grief robbers.
Almost all the actors in the movie Mirage (1983) are still alive. Burans died in 2008 at the age of 67. His filmography ends in 1992, but among the films of the Soviet period there are quite a few successful works ("Favorite", "Rally", "Theft").
Bear thief named Jeepo was played by Boris Ivanov, who died in 2002. The People's Artist of the RSFSR was 82 years old. His filmography began in 1961 ("Night Passenger"), and by the time of filming he was a sought-after actor, often appearing on screens. Ivanov gave 50 years to the theater. Moscow Council, creating a number of unforgettable images, including Napoleon and Pontius Pilate.
Episodic roles
Who played the camping guest Bradford and his son, thanks to which the police went on the trail of the robbers? This is the honored artist Paul Butkevich and I. Krumins, who never became a professional actor. It is curious that the boy was voiced by the wonderful actress Alexandra Nazarova.
The first one began filming at the age of 17, becoming famous with the "Hippocratic Oath" (1965). Recently, the 77-year-old Butkevich is rarely seen on the screen. His final work is dated 2006 ("Hostage").
The policemen starred Romualdas Antsans, Arnis Licitis and Martins Verdins. The film "Mirage" (1983), whose actors were mostly residents of Latvia, made the latter famous throughout the Soviet Union. Jānis Klūs was remembered for his role as an armored car driver, Vilnis Bekeris - a sheriff, Uldis Norenbergs - a leading television news.
The film "Mirage" (1983): actors voicing the main characters
I want to say a few words about those who voiced Ginny and Al. Irina Gubanova, who passed away in 2000, was a dubbing master. Among her most famous works is Miss Marple in the series of the same name. But she also starred a lot, the audience will easily remember her in the role of Sonya ("War and Peace").
As an actor, Alexey Pankin did not star in any major role, but was well known to viewers for supporting roles. Especially often he had to play villains. In the 80s, he became a true master of dubbing. Among his works - "Double Trap", "Banzai", "Bedroom Window". The actor passed away in 2005.
We hope that the plot of the film and the cast will arouse the reader's interest in watching the most interesting films of the Soviet era.
