“Fast and the Furious” is one of the most popular film franchises of our time. A special place in this series of films is occupied by the movie The Fast and the Furious: the actors of the third part of the action movie have completely changed, and the scene was transferred to the exotic scenery of Tokyo. How did viewers perceive such dramatic changes? And how much did the movie collect at the box office?
The creators and the short plot of the picture
The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift was shot by Justin Lin. He worked on parts 4, 5, and 6 of the franchise. In 2016, Lin also acted as the director of the film “Star Trek: Infinity,” which raised $ 338 million at the box office.
The third part of The Fast and the Furious seems to fall out of the franchise’s general line: a completely changed cast, an independent storyline. The producers explain such changes by the desire to diversify the picture and attract additional viewers.
The experiment was not entirely successful: at the box office, the film collected only $ 158 million. For comparison, “Double Fast and the Furious” earned 236 million, and “Fast and the Furious-4” - 363 million.
The protagonist of the third part is the young racer Sean. His mother sends him to live in Tokyo, and there the young man gets involved in the art of drifting, and also makes new friends: Twinky and Khan. During one of the night races, Sean crashes someone else's car. In compensation, he must work for a while for the leader of the local gang. So the character is drawn into a gang war. Trying to maneuver between dangerous situations, Sean slowly and confidently moves towards his goal, and eventually he becomes the King of Drift.
The Fast and the Furious: actors
The main character of the picture is Sean. His image was embodied on the screen by Lucas Black. The actor began his on-screen career at age 11 on the set of the film “War”. Black's first partners on the set were Kevin Costner and Elijah Wood.
The next famous work in the filmography of Lucas is a small role in the drama "Ghosts of the Mississippi." The film was nominated for an Oscar, and Alec Baldwin and Whoopi Goldberg played the main roles in it.
Then came the dramas Cold Mountain, The Marines, and finally the action movie The Fast and the Furious. Actors for the third part of the franchise were selected little-known. And although Lucas had successful projects on his track record, he never played a major role. We can say that “Fast and the Furious 3” became the debut for the performer.
Black's character Sean subsequently appeared in the seventh and eighth Fast and the Furious. At the moment, these paintings are the most famous works of a Hollywood artist in the cinema.
Bow Wow as Twinky
In the action movie "The Fast and the Furious" actors Black and Bow Wow played friends. Twinkies, according to the plot, brought Sean to the Tokyo party of riders and taught him the skill of drifting.
Bow Wow is actually an American musician: he already has 7 releases released in the genre of rap / hip-hop. It is noteworthy that the artist recorded his first music album at the age of 13, and a year later this release received platinum status.
After some time, Bow Wow decided not to stop there and try his hand at other activities. Since 2002, the musician has acted in films. His filmography includes the tape "Family Tree", "Lottery Ticket", "Hurricane Season" and many others. Bow Wow is also part-time designer of clothes and impresario.
Other artists
Lucas Black, or rather his screen character in the action movie "The Fast and the Furious," personally meets with Dominic Toretto and challenges him. This is the only episode in which one of the actors from the previous parts of The Fast and the Furious appears. And although the film ends here, in the seventh part it turns out that the hero of Vin Diesel still won the race.
The leader of the “inappropriate” gang was played by Korean-American Son Kang. Dream began his movie career with a cameo in Pearl Harbor. Then the actor took part in the filming of several parts of the Fast and the Furious.
Also in the frame you can see Brian T, Natalie Kelly and Keiko Kitagawa.
