Everyone's favorite adventure saga, Joan Rowling about a wizard boy, was masterfully transferred to the screens. The characters in the books were convincingly played by professional and aspiring actors. In the second part of the story, which was called "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets", an odious personality is introduced into the plot - the famous wizard and writer Zlatopust Lokons.
Character Creation History
In the original, the name of the hero sounds like Gilderoy Lokhart. Joan Rowling admitted that the image of Lokons was written off from a specific person, although she did not specify which one. The writer met the surname Lokhart at the war memorial and decided that it sounds rather frivolous and fits the personality of the hero. The name Gilderoy also characterizes the character as well as possible, it is artsy and pretentious, moreover, it belongs to the famous robber, the hero of Scottish ballads. The translation "Rosman" turned Lockhart into Lokons, which, however, also sounds mannered and frivolous. Gilderoi became Golden-Tooth, which simultaneously indicates the character’s golden curls and shows how empty he is in the soul.
The first appearance of the character Goldilust Lokons
For the first time, viewers meet the handsome Lokons in the Florish and Blotts bookstore, where Hogwarts students buy textbooks. The famous writer presents his new best-seller there, gives autographs and takes pictures with pleasure. Noticing Harry Potter in the lineup, he decides to seize the opportunity to add to his popularity. Zlatopust demonstratively gives the boy a complete collection of his works and poses with him for the press.
Character charm and popularity among women
Goldsmith's charm does not affect Harry, nor does his friend Ron. However, the magnetism of Goldilocks Lokons is so strong that young ladies of all ages simply adore him. Even the clever Hermione can not resist the charm of his dazzling smile, like the sensible Mrs. Weasley. It turns out that they read absolutely all the works of their beloved writer: Meetings with Vampires, Victory over Ghosts, Amusement with Ghouls and many other stories about how the famous wizard encountered dangers and heroically overcome them.
In pursuit of fame, Lockons did not shun deception: he staged his mysterious disappearance. Returning after some time, the hero effectively appeared in public with a story about adventures in captivity at the trolls. There is no mention of the family of Goldilocks Lokons in the book or in the film.
Teaching a hero in a school of magic
With the start of the school year, the vain daffodil Zlatopust appears at Hogwarts School to take the place of an educator in Defense Against the Dark Arts. Potter-lovers know that this vacancy from book to book, from film to film, passes from one teacher to another. It is not surprising that teachers do not delay, because the position of a teacher for protection from the dark arts was cursed by the Dark Lord himself. Goldilocks Lochons hardly knew about this.
His self-confidence leads him to appear before the students. This person knows how to effectively present himself. He takes majestic poses, bares his teeth in a charming smile and expertly sets his hair. She also speaks smoothly, especially about herself. Lokons’s favorite pastimes are: caring for his appearance, participating in photo shoots, signing autographs and meeting fans. Goldilocks boasts a list of awards.
Lokons's first lesson
Unfortunately, it soon becomes clear to everyone that Zlatopust Lokons can only dress up and speak floridly, and practical magic is his frankly weak side. At the first lesson, having conquered the girls with exquisite manners and boasting, Lokons could not cope with his own task. The teacher released the Cornish pixies from the cage to demonstrate to students how to pacify them. But pixies - creatures cunning and dexterous, Lockons could not calm them and shamefully left the classroom, leaving the children to solve this problem.
The hero is not revealed from the best side
Since then, whenever there is a need to show magical professionalism, Lokons reveals his incompetence. However, this does not prevent the writer with a confident appearance to give advice to others and talk about his own outstanding talent.
When Harry broke his arm while playing Quidditch, Lockons tried to demonstrate his virtuosity and heal him by healing a fracture. But as a result of the Goldsmith Lokons spell, Harry Potter lost his bones altogether. In the duel club, at the first meeting, Professor Severus Snape easily disarms narcissistic Goldilust.
Soon, all the inhabitants of Hogwarts realize that Lokons, although he is a star in the world of magic, is actually an absolutely empty and stupid person. Even books in which he allegedly describes his exploits and adventures turn out to be fake.
Revealing a False Hero
The only spell that Lockons surely possesses is the oblivion spell. The false hero used it to appropriate other people's merits and glory. The falsity has become so second nature of this character that he cannot stop and begins to boast that he supposedly long ago understood what the mystery of the Chamber of Secrets is. And only when the lie goes too far, and others demand from the writer specific actions that he is not capable of, does the hero try to escape.
As a result, Zlatopust will still have to answer for his words and deeds. The story of the charlatan Lokons ends with a fair ending - he was let down by his own meanness and narrow-mindedness. The Golden-Tooth Lokons wand, which he took from Ron, acts against him when he tries to cast a spell of oblivion, after which the hero loses his mind and ends up at St. Mungo’s Hospital.
The actor who played the role of the character
The role of an eccentric writer was played by the wonderful British actor Kenneth Branagh. It is interesting that Hugh Grant was first approved for this role, but the actor had to give in. I must say, fans of the saga did not regret it, because the Briton did an excellent job with the acting task.
Kenneth Charles Branagh was born in Northern Ireland in 1960. The Bran family was not rich, life was simple, he was the youngest son in the family. Therefore, he should not have hoped for a good education. However, his stage giftedness manifested itself back in school, and soon acting became a part of Kenneth's life.
After leaving school, a talented young man with brilliance entered the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London. The capable student was even awarded a scholarship. After graduating from the Academy, Kenneth Branagh, who received a gold medal for excellent studies, began to look for himself on the stage. The debut was successful - the young man even received a prestigious award, the Laurence Olivier Award, as the best young actor. At the same time, Kenneth begins a career in television and film. The first few works did not bring fame to the actor, but the hardworking and gifted young man had already chosen his path.
Success
Success came to the actor after the release of the film “Henry V” set by him, in which he played the role of king. For his work in the film, Kenneth Branagh was awarded the BAFTA Prize and the prize of the National Council of Film Critics of the United States. After this kind of debut, they started talking about the actor. In the next few years, he filmed and staged several more Shakespeare works in the theater.
Five years later, Kenneth received the prestigious Emmy Award for his participation in the movie "The Conspiracy." True popularity came to Kenneth after the premiere of "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets." The talented Irishman conquered the audience. He perfectly played the role of Professor Goldilocks Lokons. The actor was also familiar with several colleagues on the set.
Interestingly, Kenneth's ex-wife, Emma Thompson, plays the role of Professor Trelawney in the movie saga. With Helena Bonham Carter, who received the role of Bellatrix, Kenneth also once had a romantic relationship.
Ups and downs
It cannot be said that Kenneth Branagh’s creative path consists entirely of success and prizes. Several unsuccessful projects, for example, the role of the villain in the film “Wild, Wild West” or the comedy “In vain efforts of love” that did not pay off at the box office, did not stop Bran's creative inspiration. For his work in the film Wild, Wild West, the actor was even nominated for the Golden Raspberry Award, but this only spurred creative excitement.
He took part in such successful projects as Vallander, Thor, How You Like It, Cinderella, and filmed Agatha Christie's novel Murder on the Orient Express. Kenneth established himself not only as a wonderful actor, but also as a theater and film director, as well as a producer and even screenwriter. For his outstanding services in this field, Bran was nominated four times for the Academy Award.
Actor now
Currently, the actor is happily married to Lindsay Brannock and has far-reaching creative plans. He continues to act in films and play in the theater. His director's chair is also not empty. It is known that soon the next film adaptation of detective Agatha Christie's “Death on the Nile” awaits the audience. In this film, Kenneth Branagh will act as a producer, director and protagonist.
