Biography

Oksana Bychkova grew up on Sakhalin, although she was born in Donetsk on June 18, 1972. Oksana’s father is a sailor, so she spent a lot of time in preschool on Sakhalin. As a child, her love for St. Petersburg was born. This happened at the moment when her dad, a seafarer and a professional in his field, who visited different parts of the planet, showed his daughter the second capital. For the first time, Oksana saw St. Petersburg from a ship. This was one of the most vivid impressions in the life of the girl. Probably, thanks to his father, Oksana still perceives Petersburg with romanticism. In addition to the northern capital, together with her father, Oksana Bychkova visited different countries and cities, because dad took his daughter to his ship for the whole summer period. In 1995, the girl graduated from Rostov State University in the journalism department. After that, she worked on the radio, working as a journalist. In 2000, Oksana moved to Moscow and entered the workshop of Pyotr Todorovsky for higher directing courses.

While still studying at Todorovsky’s workshop, Bychkova released two short films. The film project “Two Sides of Glass” was created in 2001, and in 2002 the painting “Three Sisters” was released. Bychkova’s first feature film was Peter FM in 2006. Oksana wrote the script herself. This story tells how two people who have lost faith in true love find it completely by accident when they meet on the phone. An important place in the picture is allocated to the city itself, its romantic landscapes and picturesque streets. The film shows how easy it is to lose the person who is most dear to you in a big city. The motion picture was highly appreciated at the Vyborg Film Festival "Window to Europe" and received a prize. In 2008, in the film almanac “Because it's me”, Oksana made one of four short stories (“Record”). “Another Year” is the fourth work in the filmography of Oksana Bychkova. In the competition of the Rotterdam Film Festival, she was given the main award The Big Screen Award.
Director's creativity
The comedy "Plus One" of 2008 - a picture with a script by Oksana. The film was warmly received by both film critics and viewers. To show the relationship of the literary translator Masha, who went into herself, completely plunged into the work, and the self-confident English theater director Tom, Bychkova invited actors Madeleine Dzhabrailova and Jethro Skinner to perform these roles.
