The drug 'Xymelin' (spray): instructions for use

Nasal congestion often accompanies many colds and viral diseases. This is a rather unpleasant condition, which many tend to get rid of as soon as possible. In some cases, the drug "Xymelin" (spray) is quite suitable, the instruction of which positions it as a vasoconstrictor medication used in ENT practice. It has an alpha-adrenomitic effect. Due to this, blood vessels in the nasal cavity narrow. Thus, edema and hyperemia are removed. The medication begins to act in a few minutes after injection. The effect can last several hours.

The medicine "Xymelin" (spray), the instruction recommends for rhinitis, including allergic nature, sinusitis, eustachitis, otitis media. The drug is also prescribed before surgery or other manipulations in the nasal passages.

The drug "Xymelin" (spray) is a colorless transparent liquid. Analogues of the described medication are the preparations "Galazolin", "Otrivin", "Xylometazolin" and others. The main active ingredient of the drug is xylometazoline hydrochloride, and as auxiliary components - sodium phosphate, sodium chloride, purified water, benzalkonium chloride.

With local use, this medicine is almost not absorbed. Its concentration in blood plasma is very low and is not determined by modern methods.

Contraindications to the use of the drug in complex therapy are hypersensitivity to the components, as well as tachycardia, atherosclerosis, arterial hypertension, existing surgical interventions on the meninges. Also, this product is not recommended for children under 2 years of age. The drug "Xymelin" children's instructions advises to use in the form of drops.

Use a medication with caution if the patient has a history of diabetes mellitus. During the period of expectation of the child and when breastfeeding, the spray is prescribed only after careful weighing of the possible risks for the mother and child. Recommended doses must be observed.

It can be such local reactions as irritation or dryness of the nasal mucosa, burning, sneezing, in rare cases - swelling of the nasopharynx. With prolonged treatment with the drug in high doses, a depressive state may occur.

An overdose can manifest itself in an increase in these symptoms. In this case, the use of the product ceases, it is necessary to consult a doctor. Treatment, most often, is prescribed symptomatic.

If for the treatment of acute rhinitis the Ximelin means (spray) is used. Instructions for its use prohibit the simultaneous use of tricyclic antidepressants and MAO inhibitors. A drug is not prescribed for the treatment of a cold, which does not go away for a long time (for example, with a chronic disease).
