His father's name was Giuseppe, he died in 1864, at the same time when Stefan and his older brother Damon met Katherine Pierce (at the birth of Ekaterina Petrova) and both fell in love with her. He adds Stephen to the drink verbena, harmless to humans and dangerous to vampires. The next time Katherine drinks his blood, she loses her strength, and she and the other bloodsuckers are led to execution.

But gradually, Stefan realizes that Elena and Catherine are completely different personalities and falls in love with Gilbert, her beautiful soul, and not the magnificent appearance of his former love.
The feud with Damon
The feud between the Salvatore brothers began just the same way back in 1864: Catherine Pearce first became between them, then Damon hated Stefan for making him drink human blood, accusing his brother of becoming what he is.
