The legendary Mikhail Bulgakov first mentioned the personality of Yuri Miloslavsky in his play "Bliss" of 1934. This work was not published until 1966. Almost no one knew about it. But in fact it represents the basis on which a more perfect play called “Ivan Vasilievich” was created a little later.
In Bliss, the action begins from the moment when the house manager appeared in the house of the inventor Eugene Rein and demanded a full refund of the rent. In response, Raine shares with Bunsh his new discovery - the time machine. First, the inventor starts the car and opens a portal to the 16th century, as a result of which Tsar Ivan the Terrible moves to the present. Then the Rhine removes the wall between the two apartments, and then we are faced with the very legendary rogue thief Miloslavsky. The play ends with the fact that all three set off in 2222.
The play "Ivan Vasilievich" echoes the plot of "Bliss", but it is better known to modern film and theater lovers thanks to the film by Leonid Gaidai.
Georges character and work style
The real name of the adventurer Miloslavsky is Yuri. Yuri has two nicknames at once: “Georges” and “Soloist”. “Georges” is the name of Yuri in the French manner. The thief got his last nickname because he always works alone, and also because of his habit of telling everyone that he is a famous actor.
“An artist of small and large theaters” - that’s who Georges Miloslavsky was introduced to. And when the interlocutor asked for the surname to be clarified, the fraudster refused to give her name and pretended to be offended.

Plays with the participation of Miloslavsky
Georges Miloslavsky appears in only two plays by Mikhail Bulgakov.
The author began to write “Bliss” in 1934, after he concluded an agreement with the music hall. But the customer did not like this play. Therefore, soon Bulgakov began to refine and expand it. So in 1935 the play “Ivan Vasilievich” appeared.
The difference between these works was significant. Firstly, the main character was already called Nikolai Timofeev, not Evgeny Rain. And first he removed the wall between his room and Shpak’s apartment, and only then sent his friends to the 16th century. There was no hint of a subsequent journey into the future in the new play.
The first edition of the play "Ivan Vasilyevich" implied that everything described had actually happened. But then Bulgakov decided to turn it all into a dream. In 1965, the work was first printed immediately in the second edition, according to which all the incredible events were simply dreamed of by the inventor.
Unfortunately, both plays by Mikhail Bulgakov, in which Georges appeared, lay "on the table" for more than thirty years before they were published.
Character Films
Georges Miloslavsky is the protagonist of only three films: "Ivan Vasilievich Changes the Profession", "Old Songs about the Main-3" and "Black Gloves".
"Ivan Vasilievich ..." was filmed in 1973 by
Leonid Gaidai. For the role of the inventor Timofeev, the director called his beloved hero Alexander Demyanenko. In order not to destroy the habitual image of the simpletons of Shurik, the engineer was renamed from Nikolai to Alexander. And the rest of the film is strictly based on the play, with the exception of small details.
Gaidai invited such celebrities as Yuri Yakovlev, Leonid Kuravlev, Savely Kramarov, Natalya Selezneva to appear in his picture. In the same year, the director released the short film "Black Gloves", stylized as a silent movie, which was completely dedicated to the "exploits" of Miloslavsky.
In 1997, the creators of the popular New Year’s program "Old Songs about the Main-3" returned to the plot of the Bulgakov play and the film Gaidai. According to the version of the entertaining film, Georges Miloslavsky again had to go to the 16th century in the 70s and remain the regent on the throne, while Ivan the Terrible, who had escaped, tried to begin his acting career at the Mosfilm film studio.
Georges Miloslavsky: who played it from the artists?
