How to draw a picture with your own hands?

Nowadays, more and more people are trying to show their creative abilities. Someone is trying to sew or knit toys, some are interested in carving figures from wood or sculpting various little things from polymer clay. But the most traditional way to show their creative abilities is painting. A novice artist does not always know how to draw a picture so that it turns out beautifully.

The choice of plot for the picture

First you need to decide which picture to draw yourself. Perhaps it will be a portrait or a landscape, or maybe a still life. Next, you should determine in what style the future picture will be written. Since there are many styles in painting, you can consider those that are better suited to a novice artist who wants to paint a picture with his own hands.

Styles in Art

Naive or naive art. Represents the creativity of self-taught. Very well suited for those who want to draw for themselves and their friends. Allows you to learn how to hold a pencil in your hands and handle paints.

Naive style

Orphism. Appeared in 1910 in France. The main thing in this style is aesthetics, plastic, elegant lines and rhythm. Representatives of orphism - Robert Delaunay, Fernand Leger, Vladimir Baranov-Rossine.

Robert Delaunay

Primitivism. Beautiful paintings by Marc Chagall and Niko Pirosmani are written in this style. Forms of work are simplified to the work of a child or a primitive drawing. It differs from the naive style in that professionals paint these paintings, specially styling them for folk art. While naive is the work of lovers.

Niko Pirosmani

Pointillism. A bitmap that is created from small dots or squares. Henri Matisse, Paul Signac and Georges Cera worked in this force. By mixing colors, in this way, original and interesting paintings are obtained.

Graphic arts. The objects in the picture depict strokes and lines. Usually this is a plain pattern and you need to draw a picture with a pencil. In such work, various colors are sometimes used, but, as a rule, they carry an auxiliary role.

Materials and Tools

Before you start drawing, you need to prepare tools and paper. Best for beginners, A3 paper is suitable. A sheet of paper needs to be fixed on the tablet or any hard surface. If you plan to paint a picture with watercolor paints, then the paper must be glued to the tablet, after wetting the sheet with water.

Tools and materials:

  • Simple pencils.
  • Eraser or soft eraser.
  • Watercolor paints and brushes for watercolor painting.
  • Pastel pencils.
  • Colour pencils.
  • Paper napkins.
  • Jar for water.
  • Paper for drawing.
  • A tablet for attaching paper.

Beginning of work

Geometric figures

For a novice artist, the best workout will be a drawing created from the simplest geometric shapes. Using triangles, squares and circles, you can create an abstract picture on any topic. Such a style in painting is called geometric abstractionism. It’s also worth trying to draw a picture of three-dimensional objects, for example: a ball, cone, pyramid and cylinder. All these items can be used to compose the composition of your work. Such exercises will help draw a picture with a pencil and teach you how to correctly reproduce the shape of objects.

Watercolor experiments

Watercolor paints give a huge scope for creativity. Even if you simply fill the paint with colored spots on a sheet of paper, you can get a work of art. In this case, you need to know the laws of coloristics and be able to correctly combine colors with each other. This knowledge can be obtained by studying the color wheel.

Color circle

Red, yellow, and blue are primary or primary colors. On their basis, you can get any color. When mixing red and yellow, orange will come out, if you mix red with blue - purple. When connecting yellow and blue - green. Green, purple and orange colors are called secondary or complementary. The remaining colors are obtained from the predominance of one color over another.

It is important to remember the contrast of colors (opposite colors on the color wheel). Contrast arises between the primary (primary) and secondary (secondary) colors :

  • Red Green,
  • Yellow is purple
  • Blue is orange.

Using this knowledge, you can draw a very interesting picture on any topic. The easiest option is to paint a picture on the theme of sunset or sunrise.

Painting South Sunset

In order to draw a picture in stages, you need to draw up a work plan. First you need to select a plot. On the example of the presented picture depicts palm trees on the shore, the ocean, the sky and the setting sun. In the plot of this work, you can make your own changes, add a boat or remove palm trees. Next, you need to prepare the workplace. It is best to retire so that there are no distractions. Creativity is a process in which the master plunges with his head, and any hindrance will interfere with focusing on work. Watercolor paints can be replaced with pastel crayons or colored pencils, in this case you do not need to use water.

Stages of watercolor work

  • Make a sketch of the picture with a simple pencil. Mark the horizon line that should be below the middle of the sheet. Outline thin lines with palm trees, a coastline, the sun and a sunny path on the water.
  • Moisten a piece of paper stretched on a tablet with water. The setting sun and its reflection in the water are the lightest and brightest parts of the picture. They practically do not need to be filled with watercolor. Very often stereotypes appear in the perception of a person that interfere with the correct expression of reality in the picture. The sun disk should not be yellow or red. In the picture, he remains white, and his rays and the space nearby must be painted in yellow.
  • When working on a picture, you should know that water always reflects the sky. If the image of the sky contains pink, red, yellow and any other shades, they must be painted on the surface of the water.
  • Palm trees and the coastline in the picture need to be painted in dark color, since they are located opposite the setting sun.
  • To fill the drawing with watercolors follows from the lightest parts of the picture to the darkest. As was determined, the brightest part of the figure is the sun with reflection, and the darkest part is palm trees and the shore. Accordingly, you need to choose the colors and get to work.
  • Watercolor paints need a lot of water. Only under this condition it is possible to obtain the necessary transparency and realism of the image. In the process of drawing it is necessary to dry the layers of paint, and then make additions of colors. Otherwise, the elements of the picture will flow to each other.

If the beginning artist did not manage to draw a beautiful picture the first time, then you should not be upset and give up. As in any activity, in creativity it is necessary to train and study, to fill your hand. Only with constant exercises will it be possible to paint a picture so as to arouse admiration of friends.
