Protein bacteriophage is intended for the treatment and prevention of purulent, enteric inflammatory diseases provoked by the bacteria P. mirabilis and P. Vulgaris. The medicine has a specific antibacterial effect.
What is the composition of the bacteriophage of Proteus? Let's figure it out.
Composition and form of release
The composition contains a sterile filtrate of the phagolysates of Proteus mirabilis, as well as Proteus vulgaris. A medicine is produced in the form of a solution for rectal administration and oral administration in 20 ml vials. Manufacturer - Russia.
Indications for the use of proteus bacteriophage
The drug is prescribed for the treatment and prevention of enteric, purulent and inflammatory diseases caused by the multiplication of bacteria P. mirabilis and P. Vulgaris in the body, as well as in combination therapy of the following pathological conditions:
- diseases of the throat, ear and nose, as well as lung and respiratory tract (inflammation of the sinuses, middle ear, tracheitis, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, laryngitis, bronchitis, pleurisy, pneumonia);
- surgical infection (suppuration of wounds, abscess, burns, phlegmon, boils, hydradenitis, carbuncles, mastitis, panaritium, osteomyelitis, paraproctitis, bursitis);
- urogenital diseases (urethritis, pyelonephritis, cystitis, endometritis, colpitis, salpingo-oophoritis);
- enteric infectious pathologies (gallbladder inflammation, gastroenterocolitis), as well as intestinal microflora dysbiosis;
- septic generalized diseases;
- purulent and inflammatory diseases in newborns (pyoderma, omphalitis, eye inflammation, sepsis, gastroenterocolitis, etc.);
- other pathologies provoked by Proteus bacteria.
For prophylaxis
For preventive purposes, this medication is used to treat freshly infected and wounds after surgical interventions, as well as for the prevention of nosocomial infections according to epidemic indications.
The drug is a good remedy for furunculosis. Especially often it is prescribed for boils in the nose, ear and other inaccessible areas, where the drug is administered by instillation.
Dosage and route of administration
Therapy of purulent-inflammatory phenomena with a localized lesion should be carried out both locally and by taking the drug orally for 7-21 days (for medical reasons).
In the event that before the use of the bacteriophage for the treatment of open wounds any chemical antiseptics were used, the surface of the wound should be washed with a solution of sodium chloride.
Protein bacteriophage, depending on the infectious focus, is used:

- In the form of lotions, irrigation and the introduction of tampons in a volume of up to 250 ml, depending on the size of the affected area. With an abscess, after removing the purulent contents by means of a puncture, the medication is administered in a smaller volume than the volume of pus itself. In osteomyelitis, 10-20 ml are poured after surgical treatment methods.
- When injected into the cavities (pleural, articular, and other limited areas) up to 100 ml, drainage is left through which the drug is administered for several days.
- In urological diseases, proteic bacteriophage is recommended to be taken orally. If the renal pelvis or bladder is drained, the medication can be administered through a nephrostomy or cystostomy 1-2 times a day, 50 ml into the cavity of the bladder and 7 ml into the pelvis of the kidney.
- With gynecological pathologies, this pharmacological drug is injected into the uterine cavity, vagina at a dosage of 10 ml once, every day, with colpitis - 10 ml by plugging or irrigation 2 times a day. Tampons should be laid for 2 hours.
- With inflammatory pathologies of the throat, ear, nose, the drug is administered in a dosage of 2-10 ml 3 times a day. The bacteriophage is used for washing, rinsing, the use of turundum, instillation. It treats boils in the nose well.
- For enteric diseases, as well as intestinal dysbiosis, the drug is taken orally 3 times 15 days for medical reasons. Possible simultaneous rectal administration of a single dose of the bacteriophage by age in the form of an enema after cleansing the intestine.
Use in children up to 1 year old and premature
What else does the instruction manual for Proteus bacteriophage tell us?
With pneumonia, gastroenterocolitis and neonatal sepsis, this pharmacological drug is administered orally 2-3 times a day at a dosage of 3-5 ml half an hour before feeding the baby. In cases of the development of indomitable vomiting, the medicine is used in the form of high enemas (via a gas tube or catheter) once daily in a dosage of 5-10 ml. Simultaneous rectal administration of the drug (in the form of high enemas) is also possible. The course of therapy is usually 7-15 days (for medical reasons). With recurrent forms of the pathological process, repeated therapeutic courses are possible.
Prevention of nosocomial infection
In order to prevent the development of nosocomial infections in children, the proteic bacteriophage is used orally according to epidemiological indications 3-5 ml 3 times about half an hour before eating, during the period of stay in stationary conditions. In the treatment of omphalitis, pyoderma, infected wounds, this medication is used in the form of applications of 10 ml 3 times a day (a gauze cloth should be moistened with a protein bacteriophage and applied to the umbilical wound or affected area of ββthe skin) for 7-16 days.
The use of a drug with Proteus Mirabilis in the composition does not exclude the use of other anti-inflammatory and antibacterial drugs.
Special recommendations
Before use, it is recommended to shake the container with the medicinal fluid and evaluate the presence of sediment and the transparency of the drug. If sediment or turbidity is detected, the use of a pharmacological preparation is prohibited. Due to the presence of a favorable climate in this product for the propagation of microorganisms from the external environment, which provoke turbidity of the medical solution, opening the container should be carried out according to the following rules:

- hands should be washed well before working with the medication;
- the cover of the proteus bacteriophage before removal is recommended to be treated with an antiseptic alcohol-containing solution;
- remove the cap without removing the cap;
- the medicine from the opened container should be selected only by piercing the cork with a sterile syringe;
- if the cork was accidentally removed along with the cap during opening, it is forbidden to put it inside the surrounding surfaces, and the vial should not be left open (after taking the solution, it should be corked);
- An open bottle must be stored in the refrigerator.
If the above rules are observed correctly, and there is no turbidity in the bacteriophage solution, then it can be used from an open container for the entire shelf life indicated on the package.
