History
December 12, 1810 Astrakhan saw the first performance. The Drama Theater, whose building photo is presented in this article, opened on that day. The performance took place in a wooden shed, which the merchant Tokarev adapted for the spectacle. The theater was organized by retired second lieutenant A. Gruzinov. In the first year, the troupe gave more than 40 performances. Since 1857, only artists invited to tour performed in the theater. The new stone building for the Astrakhan drama was built in 1887. The author of the building project is architect Folrad. The theater was built at the expense of the honorary citizen of the city N.I. Plotnikov, who was the initiator of his construction.
The head of the troupe was P. Medvedev. He was in constant search of young talents. In the 90s of the XIX century, touring companies often came to the city. L. Sobinov, M. Ermolova, F. Chaliapin, V. Komissarzhevskaya, L. Tselikovskaya and others visited Astrakhan.
After the revolution, the theater’s repertoire radically changed. The main audience were sailors and soldiers, the performances were staged accordingly. During the war, the Astrakhan drama again had to restructure its work and change its repertoire so that it corresponded to the spirit of the times.
In 1986, the Drama Theater (Astrakhan) was awarded the Order of the Badge of Honor. And a year later it was closed for restoration, which lasted 7 years. At this time, the troupe was forced to wander around other people's stage venues. But this did not stop the team from delighting their viewers with new productions.
After restoration, the theater began to work in a different direction. The repertoire includes new performances, as they say, for every taste. In addition to classics, avant-garde, musical and children's productions appeared.
The theater carefully preserves traditions, but at the same time keeps up to date.

Today the Astrakhan Drama Theater operates under the strict guidance of director Tatyana Bondareva. She led it in 2015. Tatyana Ivanovna graduated from the Theater School of the city of Astrakhan (department of choreography). Then she was educated at the Samara Institute of Culture. T. Bondareva devoted all her life to art. She has worked in this industry for 40 years. Tatyana Ivanovna was responsible for the theater and concert activities of the region, was part of the creative delegations. For six years she served as first deputy minister of culture of the region. T. Bondareva was awarded prizes and awards, the title "Honored Worker of Culture of Russia", included in the encyclopedia "The Best People of Russia".
