Since erythromycin passes into breast milk, if necessary, it is necessary to stop breastfeeding the baby for a while.
While taking this drug, you should avoid the use of drugs that increase acidity, and also not to drink acidic drinks, as they significantly reduce the effect of erythromycin. All forms in which the erythromycin preparation is available are included in the List of Essential Drugs.
It is also worth noting that its use with chloramphenicol or lincomycin significantly weakens the effect of these agents.
If there is a need to take this antibiotic with drugs such as theophylline, aminophylline or caffeine, then you need to know that in this case the concentration of these substances in the blood plasma increases, and this in turn leads directly to the development of a toxic effect.
After taking erythromycin, the concentration of cyclosporine in the blood plasma increases, which can lead to the onset of nephrotoxicity.
If an intravenous administration of an erythromycin solution is carried out, then the action of ethanol is enhanced (gastric emptying is accelerated and the duration of the action of alcohol dehydrogenase in the stomach is reduced).
