There are not so many films about the Wild West, the creators of which decided to exchange brutality and rigidity for a huge portion of healthy humor. One of the best in this category is Tom Dey’s directorial debut, the comedy western Shanghai Noon. Rating of the painting IMDb: 6.60.
Interesting idea
Once, the creative tandem of screenwriters Miles Millar and Alfred Gough came up with a good idea: film playwrights decided to combine western and kung fu action. Cameraman Daniel Mindel, enlisting the support of the director of the tape, decided to shoot Jackie Chan's stunts without gluing. As a result, thanks to the efforts of the actors and the film crew, “Shanghai Noon” turned out to be a very funny comedy, which many critics called the best Hollywood buddy movie with Chan after the brilliant “Rush Hour”.
The picture unfolds in an era of conquering the vast expanses of the Wild West. The daring Chinese Chong Wang is forced to team up with the broken robber Roy O`Bannon in order to track down the Chinese princess Pei Pei kidnapped by the villains.
Performers of the leading roles. Jackie Chan
The actors in Shanghai Noon were a truly international ensemble. The famous Hong Kong, Chinese and Hollywood artist, stuntman, producer, director, stunt director, singer and philanthropist Jackie Chan played the role of Chung Wang. In Tom Day’s project, he doesn’t look so young, but he doesn’t have to use strength and energy. "The King of Asian Cinema" has long conquered the overseas audience. "Shanghai noon" is considered to be one of the first steps to Chan's Hollywood success. A typical American western genre, thanks to the master of "comic kung fu", flirted with new colors.
Other actors of “Shanghai Noon” created no less vivid and memorable images.
Owen Wilson
American actor Owen Cunningham Wilson has become a great partner for Chan. He also tried to realize himself as a screenwriter and producer. His talent has been appreciated by the public, Wilson has nominations for BAFTA, Golden Globe and Oscar. The most famous acting works of Owen Cunningham, in addition to slobbing and Roy O`Bannon’s hangs, are considered roles in the films “Night at the Museum”, “Marley and Me”, “Hotel Grand Budapest”.
From princess to detectives
Lucy Alexis Lew, who embodied the image of the beautiful princess Pei Pei on the screen, became widely known after the role of Ling Waugh in the television movie "Ellie McBeal", for which she received an Emmy. This was followed by the films of the Charlie Angels series and both parts of Kill Bill. From 2012 to the present, Lucy plays the role of Joan Watson in the popular series “Elementary”.
