"Gistan" - a drug for external use, belongs to the group of corticosteroids. The drug has anti-inflammatory, anti-allergic, decongestant and antipruritic effects.
Release form
The drug is made in the form of a cream for topical use. Ointment "Gistan" is presented as a white mass, odorless. The medication is available in aluminum tubes of five and fifteen grams.
Structure
The active component in the composition of the drug is myometasone furoate, and additional trace elements are:
- emulsifying wax;
- paraffin;
- sodium citric acid;
- propylene glycol (a thick liquid with a weak characteristic aroma, sweet taste, which has the ability to absorb water vapor from the air);
- macrogol;
- water.
Pharmacological properties
"Gistan" refers to synthetic hormones of the steroid type, the active component has an anti-inflammatory and antipruritic effect.
Under the therapeutic effect of the ointment, the patient’s wounds heal quickly, the general condition of the skin improves, and edema, itching and pain in the affected area are eliminated.
Indications
The drug must be used in the presence of the following symptoms:
- Atopic dermatitis (a disease that occurs in patients with a genetic predisposition to hereditary diseases, may reappear).
- Itchy skin, which is manifested by the negative influence of external and internal factors.
- Seborrheic eczema (inflammation of the sebaceous glands).
- The period of exacerbation of neurodermatitis (a chronic allergic skin disease that can occur at any age).
- Urticaria (skin infection, dermatitis of an allergic origin, which is characterized by the instantaneous appearance of flat pale pink blisters).
- Allergic reactions.
Contraindications
Like any other drug, Gistan has a number of prohibitions on the use of:
- Rosacea (chronic repeated inflammation of the skin on the face, which is characterized by redness, vasodilation of the skin, the formation of papules, pustules and edema).
- Rosacea (chronic pathology of the sebaceous glands, in the pathogenesis of which angiopathies play an important role).
- Fungal diseases or mycoses (a disease based on infection of the epidermis, mucous membranes, and nails).
- Viral skin lesions (enterovirus, measles, herpes simplex type 6, cytomegalovirus, rubella, Epstein-Barr virus, herpes simplex, chicken pox, coxsivirus, herpes zoster, herpes zoster).

- Near-mouth dermatitis (irritation of the skin around the mouth).

Reviews of patients about the drug indicate that the cream is intended for external use only. The drug must be applied to the damaged area of the skin with a thin layer once a day.

Gauze dressings should not be used, since periodic contact of the tissue with the skin can cause severe adverse reactions.
The duration of treatment is determined by the attending doctor, depending on the severity of the disease. Overdose
Ointment "Gistan" with prolonged and uncontrolled use can cause negative reactions of the body, for example:
- Violation of the adrenal glands.
- Itsenko-Cushing's syndrome (a pathological process, the formation of which is affected by high levels of glucocorticoid hormones).
- Heart rhythm disturbances.
- Violation of the thyroid gland.
- Bronchospasm, the development of bronchial asthma.
- Change in indicators of the clinical picture of blood.
For any manifestation of an overdose, stop using the ointment.
