Inflammation of the appendages is adnexitis. Treatment, causes and symptoms

Adnexitis is an inflammation of the uterus appendages (ovaries and fallopian tubes). If adnexitis is diagnosed, treatment should be immediate. The disease develops quite quickly and in many cases leads to infertility.

Causes of adnexitis

The disease is caused by pathogenic microbes (staphylococcus, chlamydia, E. coli, streptococcus, tuberculosis microbacteria). These pathogens penetrate the uterine cavity and appendages from the vagina and cervix. Sometimes infections can spread throughout the body by transferring pathogens through the blood vessels. Often, infection of the appendages occurs due to an abortion, curettage and various manipulations carried out inside the uterus.

Symptoms of adnexitis

The disease is characterized by acute, severe pain in the abdomen and sacrum. In addition, bloating, nausea, vomiting and stool retention may occur. In case of palpation, pain in the abdomen appears, sometimes with symptoms of muscle protection. The temperature may rise to 39 C. As a result of a blood test, leukocytosis is detected.

If adnexitis is not used for treatment of the disease, rupture of the tubes in the uterus may occur, which is accompanied by purulent peritonitis due to the release of pus into the abdominal cavity. If the disease is at an initial stage and does not progress, then the pain and temperature subside within a week, and blood tests return to normal. However, this happens quite rarely. Therefore, you can’t just give up on adnexitis, treatment must be started in a timely manner to prevent infection of the entire body.

If a woman has chronic adnexitis, then the disease develops on its own, and can also be a complication of the acute form. The symptoms of the disease are as follows: pain in the lower abdomen, as well as in the groin, which gives to the anus and sacrum. Sensations arise due to the formation of adhesions around the ovaries and fallopian tubes. On the basis of this, an adhesion process occurs , which leads to obstruction of the fallopian tubes and infertility. Chronic adnexitis is characterized by menstrual irregularities, manifested by prolonged and heavy bleeding.

Treatment

Adnexitis treatment is carried out with the help of therapeutic measures, which include hospitalization (if necessary), antibacterial drugs, vitamins.

When the acute manifestations of adnexitis subside, doctors recommend conducting various procedures with the addition of antibacterial herbs. Ultraviolet radiation, electrophoresis with anti-inflammatory drugs, ultrasounds, vibration massage are also used.

Thanks to the procedures, inflammation decreases, the adhesion process stops. Pain sensations gradually stop, the cycle and microflora in the genitals are restored.

With the diagnosis of adnexitis, antibiotic treatment also takes place. The course of drugs must be necessarily agreed with the doctor. Antibiotics are not suitable for all women, which is why they should be taken with caution.

Adnexitis Prevention

To begin with, it is worth noting that the disease most often occurs in women who suffer from genital infections, use intrauterine contraceptives, underwent surgery on the genitals, as well as after miscarriages and abortions.

Adnexitis, the treatment of which is quite complicated and long, can be prevented. For this, it is necessary to use contraception, which is suitable for the body, to prevent unprotected intercourse, try not to overcool and not experience stress. In addition to all of the above, a gynecologist's consultation should be at least once every six months (for preventive purposes, even if there are no complaints).

However, not a single woman is safe from appendage disease. But most importantly - you need to monitor your health, especially in reproductive age. This will help to bear and give birth to healthy children. Adnexitis, the symptoms whose treatment was considered in this article, is a rather serious disease that requires the attention of specialists.
