Theater History
The Fifth Chamber Theater (Omsk) is quite young. It was formed in 1990. And from the moment of its appearance, it immediately entered the creative life of the city rapidly and brightly. Today it is already an integral part of Omsk. The first artistic director of the theater was Sergey Rudzinsky. From the first days of its existence, the troupe was different from others existing in the city with its original repertoire.
The theater sought to stage not only the classics known to the public, but also to discover new names for playwrights, to search for young authors, to stage plays that had never before seen scenes, to create their own versions of already known productions. The troupe very often went on tour to other countries in the 90s. Thanks to this, the state drama The Fifth Theater (Omsk) made friends among colleagues in Germany, France, Bulgaria, Finland, Poland and so on.
In 1996, the troupe initiated an interesting project. In Omsk, Days of Japanese Culture were organized. This project allowed residents of the city to get acquainted with the performances and culture of the Land of the Rising Sun. In 1998, the German colleagues of the troupe organized a Week of Russian Culture in their country. There were shown performances of the Fifth Theater based on the works of Russian classics. The troupe is the pioneers of various festival movements in the region: “Young Theaters of Russia”, “We Play Gogol!”. Today, the Fifth Theater continues its creative search and interacts with the audience on the principle of dialogue. Actors are capable and willing to work in various genres.
