Russian cinema has never been particularly stable. Films regularly shot in various genres are regularly released. On the screen you can meet both action movies and detectives. But the greatest success with the audience has always enjoyed romantic comedies. I must say, this genre was the most popular in the days of the USSR. So modern Russian directors have inherited this glorious tradition.

But, unfortunately, the state sponsors for the most part very weak and homogeneous paintings that are not worthy of attention.
Something truly worthwhile can be found infrequently. However, the young director Pavel Ruminov was still able to pleasantly surprise us. During his not-so-long career, he managed to try his hand in many genres. And he managed to achieve the greatest success in the romantic comedy "Status: Free" (2015 film). Plot
The plot of the film "Status: Free" at first glance simple and straightforward. But there is something attracting the attention of the viewer in it. In the center of events is a young guy named Nikita. He has a great sense of humor, thanks to which he was able to build a career as a stand-up comedian. He regularly performs in clubs and amuses the audience. But his real life is far from being as positive as it might seem at first glance. More recently, he met with a beautiful girl Athena. Nikita has been in love with her for more than a year, and therefore was glad when, finally, he was able to win her heart. The couple has been together for quite some time. Nikita was sure that nothing threatened their relationship. But he was very mistaken ...
Once, for reasons incomprehensible to the main character, Athena abandons Nikita and leaves for another man. Moreover, this man was a man who was already under forty years old. Nikita was lost in conjecture and could not understand what was happening. However, he vowed to Athena that he could return her in just a week. Will he be able to do this on time? Or has their relationship finally come to an end?
About the film
At first glance, it might seem that “Status: Free” is a typical representative of the genre. And there is some truth to this. The film "Status: Free" is a comedy melodrama in which a love story harmoniously combines with a fair amount of humor. But at the same time, Ruminov was able to bring to this story a lot of quite interesting and original finds that are immediately evident during viewing.
No wonder the reviews "Status: Free" received mostly positive. The film is really extremely successful. This is primarily due to the stellar cast and master of camera work. And Ruminov himself, in spite of his little experience, did an excellent job of his task. Thus, we did not get a masterpiece, but a very high-quality film from a representative of the comedy genre.

As we have already noted, the director's chair of the film was taken by none other than Pavel Ruminov. He is an extremely extraordinary person. Paul makes films on a regular basis. That's just almost never impossible to guess what to expect from his next job. Undoubtedly, his most important hit in his career is Status: Free. Director Pavel Ruminov is unlikely to surpass him in the coming years. Especially considering the fact that for a couple of years he almost completely immersed himself in genre cinema.
After Ruminov shot this largely classic comedy, he decided to try his hand at such a rare for Russian cinema subgenre of horror films as a slasher. As a result, he managed to remove a non-standard and largely ironic work called Dislike. The film was criticized by both viewers and critics. But, despite this, Ruminov continued to experiment and shot an even more controversial “Love Machine”. This erotic and very frank work did not pass the mass viewer. At the same time, fans noted that Ruminov was clearly copying a recent hit by Gaspard Noe called "Love."
In a word, most likely, we will not soon wait for something similar to “Status: Free” from Paul (2015 film) from Paul. And the producers are unlikely to trust him with any major project after several failures. But let's hope for the best.

But the military drama "We are from the Future", in which he played one of the main roles, made him recognizable. Immediately following this was the completely successful comedy Veselchaki. And the first serious success, which made Kozlovsky a major movie star, can safely be considered the comedy "Five Brides." What is most remarkable, the main female role there was also performed by Boyarskaya. Even then, Kozlovsky was fully able to prove himself as a terrific comedian. For more than fifteen years of his career, he managed to create more than two dozen films. It was he who had a hand in such hits as “Land of the Deaf”, “Hitler Kaput!”, “Love in the Big City”, “Office Romance. Our Time” and many, many others. So he clearly knows a lot about what projects are worth taking. At the moment, "Status: Free" is his last successful job.
