The drug "Smecta" for children and adults: properties and rules for admission

Smecta is an effective treatment for diarrhea. The active substance is diosmectin (smectite dioctahedral). In addition, the preparation contains auxiliary substances - glucose, vanillin, sodium saccharin. The tool is completely harmless and perfectly tolerated not only by adults, but also by children.

The drug "Smecta" for children or adult patients is available in the form of a powder, which is diluted in liquid. The finished suspension tastes good, it is usually not difficult to give this medicine to a child. The use of diosmectin in medicine is based on its ability to adsorb bacteria, viruses and toxins. In addition, dioctahedral smectite has an enveloping effect, thereby enhancing the protective properties of the gastric and intestinal mucosa, increasing the amount of mucus and improving its quality. For this reason, the drug is successfully used in the treatment of gastritis with high acidity, although it does not affect the composition of gastric juice.

The drug "Smecta" for children or adults is prescribed for diarrhea of various nature - acute or chronic, caused by infection or other causes (errors in food, medication). In addition, it is used in the complex treatment of various gastrointestinal diseases - gastritis, peptic ulcer, colitis, as it eliminates many of its unpleasant symptoms: flatulence, heartburn, discomfort in the stomach and intestines. Smecta is indispensable for children with food poisoning: eating poor-quality foods, which in adults may not cause digestive upsets, can cause severe diarrhea in children. In this case, the drug should be started as soon as possible, even before the arrival of the doctor.

Smecta is available in 3 g disposable sachets. To prepare the medicine, the contents of the sachet must be diluted in water. The daily dose for adults is 9 g. Smecta Sorbent for children under the age of one year is prescribed at the rate of 3 g per day - they usually need only one sachet. The medicine should be taken between meals, observing a gap of one to two hours, and not be combined with other medicines - otherwise, due to the sorbing properties of the drug "Smecta", their administration may be ineffective.

As for how to dilute Smecta to a child so that he agrees to drink the medicine, then you can use not only water, but also juice or baby tea (50 ml). It is advisable to distribute the daily dose in several doses, adding the medicine to liquid or semi-liquid dishes. The course of treatment with Smecta for children and adults should not last more than a week.

This seemingly harmless drug has contraindications. So, for some, individual intolerance may be noted. The drug is not prescribed for intestinal obstruction, fructose intolerance and glucose malabsorption syndrome, galactose. For a pregnant woman, the drug can be prescribed by a doctor if appropriate indications are available. According to reviews, the drug significantly facilitates the manifestation of toxicosis and effectively eliminates heartburn, often associated with this condition.
