“Silver Wedding” is a group that has become a vivid phenomenon of the Belarusian scene, which, gradually growing, flowed into other countries. This group has become famous thanks to its impeccably insane manner of performance, high-quality music and an outstanding personality, leading a reckless gang of musicians. The indisputable trump card of the group is mocking and life-affirming songs, bright performance with the use of various props and costumes. But first things first.
Diva
The leader of the Silver Wedding, Svetlana Ben, insists that she be called simply Benka. She was born in the summer of 1973 in Vitebsk in a family of medical workers. After graduating from the Vitebsk College of Arts, she continued her studies at the State University of Culture and Arts. In 2006, she graduated from the specialty "Director of the Puppet Theater." Before her career in Silver Wedding, Svetlana even managed to work by profession, staging several performances. But she did not stop there, having tried herself in the role of the poetess, solo singer and creator of the Kartonka Theater. Now Benka is the unchanging soloist-inspirer since the group’s birthday. The muse of this person creates creations full of positive. A pinch of alien with a slice of childish naivete accompany almost all the songs of the Silver Wedding group. Her life is filled with creativity, sunshine and fun.
Group
At the concerts of the Silver Wedding cabaret band, even the most non-musical instruments authentically sound. Typewriters, saws, xylophone, rattles, dolls, bottles and suitcases - a variety of magical junk takes part in the creation of charming music. Besides the fun stuff, of course, there are more traditional instruments. However, for the modern musical paradigm, sometimes they are non-standard and they are ukulele, xylophone, double bass, trumpet, trombone, banjo, violin, concertina, tuba and guitar. And, of course, a proprietary ironing board. The repertoire of the musical collective songs in Russian, French and German. Dixieland and French chanson prevail in genres, however, the group does not shy away from Russian folk motifs, country and Latin American rhythms.
In such magical conditions, members of an unusual musical family called “Silver Wedding” can no longer be ordinary inhabitants with boring names. Apart from Benka, cabaret band members include William Gabbs, Eugene and Serge Lumiere, George Punch, Francois de Bosch, Francesca Maria Vasilevska, Natalie Martes and Alexandro Bo. In fact, in life all of them have rather ordinary Belarusian names and surnames, but you do not need to divulge this information, leaving it a little secret. The musical collective is quite united and friendly, and this is the basis for the fact that the “Silver Wedding” is a group. “The nature of the suitcase”, “Jump-jump”, “Food chain” - these are just some of the famous songs of the group.
Repertoire
Silver Wedding is a group whose concert is a real show. The musicians released their first album, Concert in the Closet, in 2008, 3 years after the band’s birth. It included slicing concert songs. At that time, Silver Wedding did not want to record an album for a long time, positioning itself as a concert group, however, it succumbed to the entreaties of fans. Well, after the release of the album, the group found new fans and significantly increased its popularity.
The second album, “Heart muscle” in 2011, was already appreciated by a circle of serious music critics. The non-triviality and richness of the songs thrilled them. Inexorable success was also aggravated by the novelty and freshness of the genre, rare among the countries of the post-Soviet space.
At the moment, several new albums have already been recorded, including the beautiful Laterna Magica in 2012, “Music is Everything” in 2015, as well as the maxi-single Ag 2014, which became the visiting card of the Silver Wedding band. The group won the hearts of a huge number of people of different nationalities and social classes. Among the repertoire of musicians there is not a single composition similar to another.
