Treatment of papillomavirus infection: when it is needed

The human papillomavirus is a very common phenomenon, and the vast majority of the world's population is its carriers. In most cases, this virus does not pose a danger to its carrier, and only skin growths of one form or another located on different parts of the body can be its only manifestation. They usually occur only some time after infection and pass soon, but can occur again with a decrease in immunity. Sometimes such an infection can be asymptomatic.

In most cases, treatment for papillomavirus infection is not required, and you can limit yourself to only symptomatic treatment, that is, removal of warts, but some of its varieties are very likely to cause cancer, and then antiviral treatment is highly desirable. First of all, this applies to those strains of papillomavirus that are sexually transmitted, namely two of them. Since these viruses can cause a disease such as cervical cancer, the vast majority of those who applied for antiviral treatment are women. Nevertheless, treatment of papillomavirus infection needs to be done not only by them, but also by their partners, since it will most likely be found in them during the examination, and as carriers, they will surely re-infect their partner.

This situation is especially dangerous during pregnancy: in principle, pregnancy and papillomavirus infection - this is not a big deal, but only if there are no genital warts in the birth canal of a woman. If they are, then the risk of transmitting the infection to the child during childbirth is quite high, and damage to the baby's respiratory tract and genitals is possible. During pregnancy, the risk of their occurrence is quite large, since the immunity of a woman is reduced. Treatment of papillomavirus infection during pregnancy is impossible due to the fact that it takes the strongest antiviral drugs that can harm the baby. In critical cases, treatment is possible after 28 weeks of pregnancy, when the child has already formed all the organs, and it is almost impossible to harm him. In most cases, treatment for papillomavirus infection during pregnancy is not performed, but procedures are prescribed to remove genital warts from the birth canal.

Before treating, a papillomavirus infection must be differentiated, because most of its varieties are still not dangerous for human health, and the strongest drugs, on the contrary, can harm the body. It is advisable to treat only oncogenic strains. Also, treatment of papillomavirus infection can be carried out in cases where a person for one reason or another fails to have immunity, and even having such a trifle infection in the body can be an overload for him, for example, with AIDS or radiation sickness, as well as with oncological diseases and the rehabilitation period after complex operations.

Currently, there is an effective vaccine for the prevention of oncogenic papillomavirus infections. In many countries, this vaccine is included in the list of compulsory girls in middle school age. It is unofficially called a cervical cancer vaccine, and there is every reason. It is very important to get such a vaccine before the onset of sexual activity, otherwise it will be useless if the infection is already in the body. In this case, you must first conduct a course of antiviral therapy, and only then do this vaccine. In our country, such vaccination is still on a paid basis, but in the future it may be included in the list of services paid for by a health insurance policy.
