Pharmacological action of the drug "No-spa"

The instruction says that no-shpa is a myotropic antispasmodic. The main active ingredient, drotaverine, is a derivative of isoquinolone and exhibits an antispasmodic effect on smooth muscle, which is achieved by inhibiting phosphodiesterase 4. Inhibition of this enzyme can lead to an increase in cAMP in the blood, which can inactivate the myosin kinase chain. It is the latter that leads to smooth muscle relaxation.

The enzyme that hydrolyzes cAMP in smooth muscle cells of the myocardium and blood vessels is an isoenzyme of phosphodiesterase 3 - this shows a rather high efficiency of the drug as an antispasmodic, because when it is used, there is no pronounced effect on CVS, as well as undesirable cardiovascular phenomena.

No-spa is effective for smooth muscle spasms of both muscular and nervous etiology. In addition, regardless of the type of autonomic innervation, the drug can act on the smooth muscle structure of the biliary tract, gastrointestinal tract, vascular and genitourinary systems. No-spa can also improve blood circulation to tissues, due to its vasodilating effect.
