The picture of Janik Fayziev “August. Eighth ”, whose actors, by the way, are the stars of Russian cinema, despite all the efforts of the film crew, failed at the box office. Nevertheless, the idea of the film is very original and worthy of the attention of the viewer. So what is this movie about, and why is it worth watching?

The plot of the film is centered on a little boy Artem, who comes to South Ossetia for his summer vacation with his grandparents and, by chance, finds himself in the center of a military conflict that took place on these lands in August 2008.
The film is devoid of any politicization, no evaluation is given to the warring parties. The main character Artem is too small to understand anything - he lives in the world of his fantasies. Therefore, everything that happens is viewed through the prism of the boy’s imagination: he perceives his native and Russian soldiers as Good Robots, and their opponents as servants of the fairy-tale character Mrakovlast.

For the first time, his hero meets with Ksenia (Svetlana Ivanova) when a rocket strike was delivered to the car in which Artem's mother and other people rode. The peacekeeping detachment of Lehi helped get frightened Xenia to Tskhinval.
However, Ksenia’s attempts to continue her journey further are unsuccessful. After another shelling of her vehicle, she again meets Lech and adjoins his detachment. Then a young woman becomes a witness that the hero of Maxim Matveev knows his job very well and is not only a good professional, but also a decent person. When everything ends well, the hero Matveeva and Ivanova meet at the airport, and she introduces Lech with her son.

When a frightened Ksenia calls him after a while and asks about the current situation on the border, Zaur does not take her concern seriously, because he is a peacemaker and believes that everything in South Ossetia is proceeding normally. But the hostilities suddenly begin, and Zaur has to urgently evacuate his parents and child. Father does not have time to do this: he dies with his relatives, and only a small boy remains alive.
Egor Beroev is indeed a semi-Ossetian by origin, so he immediately agreed to play the role proposed to him. A little earlier, the actor had already played a major role in one of Fayziev’s projects - The Turkish Gambit. Beroeva can also be seen in the films "Admiral", "Landing" and "Chemist".
Alexander Oleshko
Actors of the film “August. Eighth ”also took into their team Alexander Oleshko, who got the role of boyfriend Ksenia - Yegor.
Yegor does not get along very well with his son Xenia from his first marriage - Artem. Therefore, when they go to Sochi in the summer of 2008, he is not eager to take the boy with him. Trying to resolve this issue, Ksenia sends Artem on vacation in South Ossetia. When the situation gets out of control, he turns to Yegor for help, but he gives the woman a harsh expression that he does not intend to deal with her problems. Actually, this is where their relationship ends.
Alexander Oleshko during his career earned himself a stable role as a comedian. Particularly popular for the actor was his participation in the show "The Big Difference", where together with Nona Grishaeva Oleshko showed parodies of pop stars. The most famous feature films with the participation of Oleshko can be considered “Turkish Gambit”, “Inhabited Island” and the comedy “A Man with a Guarantee”.
Alexey Guskov
The film "August. Eighth ”, the actors and roles in which are close and understandable to the ordinary audience, became the next work for the famous actor Alexei Guskov. In the fantastic action movie Janika Fayzieva, Guskov got the role of the Kazbek militia. On the screen, his hero is not present for long and helps to get to his son on a certain stretch of the path of Xenia. Alexei Guskov at that time already had experience in working with the director Fayziev - he played Lieutenant Colonel Kazanzaki in his film "Turkish Gambit."
The best roles of Guskov in the movie are associated with negative characters. In the melodrama Scavenger, he plays a hit man in Border. Taiga novel "- jealous and dangerous Nikita Goloshchekina. The Olympic champion and the real Ossetian, Khasan Baroev, appeared in the picture of Fayziev. In the film, he played a friend of Zaur - Ilya.
Gosha Kutsenko, a national favorite, also appeared in the frame, playing the role of a cameo.
Vladimir Vdovichenkov ("Team") appeared before the audience in the guise of the President of the Russian Federation. The presidential advisers included actors Sergei Gazarov (Limit), Anatoly Bely (Paragraph 78), and Alexander Dubina. The role of the Minister of Defense of the Russian Federation was played by Vladimir Zaitsev (Admiral).
Among the Russian and Ossetian peacekeeping soldiers were actors Alexander Petrov (“Fartsa”), Kirill Pletnev (“Saboteur”), Konstantin Samoukov, Alexander Karamnov, Rodion Galyuchenko and Valentin Varetsky (“Shtrafbat”).
