The comic play in eleven acts is amusing by the contrast of the beginning and its unexpected ending. In general, funny scenes pervade the whole action. Dialogues and monologues are sparkling, and the reasoning of the heroes has not lost relevance. An acquaintance with the play will now take place. You will see a brief summary of the story "Bear". Chekhov wrote it in 1888, but so far this joke has not left the stage.
Living room of Elena Ivanovna Popova
An old faithful footman Luke persuades his mistress not to grieve over the death of her husband, who left this world seven months ago. The fact is that Elena Ivanovna decided never to leave the house and not communicate with her neighbors. This is the beginning of the play, which is included in its summary. "Bear" Chekhov conceived and wrote a mockery of the imaginary, contrived grief of the heroine. The lady tries not to look away from the photograph of the deceased husband and does not take the scarf from her eyes. Luke reasonably notes that grief and youth will pass, she will catch on, but it will be too late. Life is full of joys that youth and beauty can bring to it.
Appearance of the landowner Grigory Ivanovich Smirnov
He desperately needs money that the deceased owed. Today, Smirnov must bring them to the bank.
Without money from the beautiful widow, who does not want to talk about the base, he is not going to leave. An intrigue ensues, with which a brief summary will introduce the reader (“The Bear”, Chekhov). The author shows us Smirnov as a kind of double of the late husband of the heroine. He is a nobleman, landowner, formerly a military man. The man is a clear Don Juan who left twelve women. The late husband of Popova was also distinguished by volost and treason. The landlady refuses money to the landowner, promising to give the day after tomorrow, but this does not suit him, since they are needed today. Therefore, not at all embarrassed, Smirnov decides to stay in the landowner's house until he receives his money. So suddenly the action begins to unfold. The play, the summary (“The Bear”, Chekhov) of which we continue to consider, will develop in the vein of re-educating the main characters.
Dialogues in the eighth scene
The hero demanded that his coachman straighten his horse, give her oats, and order himself to give a glass of vodka. He settled down, as at home, but the guest’s mood was heating up, and when Elena Ivanovna entered, an angry monologue about what women were was pouring on her.
The summary (“Bear, Chekhov) will include only Smirnov’s sharpest remarks about“ beautiful ladies ”. For example, that they are walking crocodiles in skirts, wrybok crawlers who only know how to whine and sob, achieving their goals, turtle tails who do not know how to love correctly. “Oh, how angry I am,” Lovelace repeats constantly.
And from hatred to love, as you know, is only one step. Moreover, the hostess is good: blood with milk, dimples on the cheeks. Smirnova is extremely indignant. She is sure that she loves her late husband sincerely and dearly, despite his previous betrayals. In this scene one can feel, even if we consider a brief summary (“The Bear”, Chekhov), an analogy with the taming of Petruccio of the wayward Katarina by Shakespeare. Popova tries to drive the uninvited guest out of the house, even insulting him, but does not succeed.
Duel
Enraged Smirnov demands a duel for insulting. Women achieved emancipation, so let them answer according to all the rules. Popova agrees to shoot with fervor. But she does not know how to shoot. It must be taught.
The teacher and student merge in an embrace and a long kiss with pistols in their hands. Shocked by this sight, Luka freezes. This is the final joke, the author of which is Chekhov. "Bear", the brief content of which we examined, can be told in the form of a very concise story.
Briefly
"Briefs" means "briefly." The catalog appeared thirteen years ago. It was decided to collect all the world masterpieces that can be read in 10-15 minutes. Of course, this is not a full reading, but sometimes you need to find out about something very quickly. For such people the shortest retelling of a sometimes very long work was created.
Chekhov, “The Bear”: summary (briefs)
A play from one act, which was written in 1888. There are three characters in it: the widow-landowner Popova, her neighbor Smirnov and the lackey Luka.
A pretty young widow, Elena Ivanovna, grieves over her dead husband for 7 months. She is at home all the time, does not go to visit and does not receive anyone. Old faithful Luke blames her for such behavior: youth is given to us for joy, for dancing and entertainment. Elena Ivanovna, however, believes that she will never take mourning. Yes, her husband was far from ideal, he cheated on her left and right, but let him see from the grave how always Popova was faithful to him, who speaks with tears only with a photograph of her Nicolas and wonders if she should go to the monastery.
Here they announce that a visitor has appeared and requires an immediate meeting. He is so persistent that Elena Ivanovna goes to him. This is Smirnov’s neighbor, a retired artillery lieutenant who drove 70 miles. He has an urgent matter. Popova must immediately pay off her late husband’s debt. But she will have money only the day after tomorrow, and there is no mood to engage in money matters. She leaves. Then the angry Grigory Ivanovich decides to stay in an inhospitable house (he does not care) and wait for the money. The word "mood" simply infuriated the retired lieutenant. Three creditors have already refused him, and the fourth, you know, has a "mood". These poetic creatures, lovely ladies, completely infuriate him. He is not going to leave; he orders horses to be pulled up and vodka served. Elena Ivanovna enters the room again, but the conversation does not stick. Smirnov demands money, but Popova refuses, calling the guest an ill-mannered snapper. Smirnov responded with a speech that was unflattering for all women combined. He saw them a lot in his lifetime, passionately loved, but now you can’t fool him, and the dimples on his cheeks do not affect him. He is angry to the last degree and demands that the emancipated lady stand up to the barrier. She agrees in the heat of a quarrel and brings pistols. Smirnov is amazed and falls in love immediately. This is a real woman! But Elena Ivanovna does not know how to shoot. Grigory Ivanovich, showing how to handle weapons, takes the mistress by the waist and hugs her tightly.

She melts in his arms, announcing that she hates the impudent. They kiss passionately. Luke, who was already about to defend his mistress, calling on men with a rake, a pitchfork, only says: "Father!"
