Our people very often engage in self-medication, not wanting to visit a doctor once again or seek any medical help. Based on this, information will be useful to many, which will tell you what nosebleeds are and what primary care should be provided to the victim.
Good for everyone
It is worth noting that such information will be useful to all people, without exception. It is especially useful for families with children, because they often inflict various injuries on themselves and break their noses. What should be done first and what should be avoided?
Main reasons
First, consider why nosebleeds can occur . First aid is already subsequent, but no less important information. Why can nosebleeds occur ? Main reasons:
- consequence of infectious diseases (e.g. flu);
- a consequence of chronic diseases ( kidney disease or blood disease);
- mechanical injuries of the nose (strokes, too hard picking in the nose);
- vitamin deficiencies, especially vitamin C deficiency (for children);
- atmospheric phenomena (pressure drops, overheating).
These are the most common signs of nosebleeds. But there are other, less common and rather rare reasons, which are not considered at this stage.
Help
It is also worth considering what first aid should be provided for bleeding. So, the main thing is to reassure a person, as well as make him take the right position. The advice is erroneous when a person is recommended to lie on his back and throw his head back so that blood does not flow out of the body. This is fraught with frequent ingestion of blood, which may cause stomach irritation. With a problem such as nosebleeds, first aid is to take a sitting position, leaning forward a bit. So the pressure on the veins will slightly weaken and the bleeding will most likely stop. It is also necessary to pinch your nose with your fingers (most often the nasal septum bleeds), which will help the blood to stop faster. It is necessary to keep the nose pinched for at least 10 minutes, while breathing it is necessary only with the mouth.
If nose bleeding has stopped, first aid in this case: try to keep your head straight for a couple of hours after that, above the level of the heart, do not bend. It is also not recommended to pick your nose or blow your nose. It is better to free the nose of all the excess that has accumulated there, a little later, after the bleeding stops. If, after some time, the bleeding starts again, it is best in this situation to blow your nose energetically (to clear your nose of the remaining blood clots), rinse your nose, drip with a decongestant spray if possible, and re-do all of the above. Further it is recommended to call a doctor.
Help of the doctor
If nosebleeds have occurred as a result of a blow or a fall, the first aid given to the victim will be insufficient. In such a situation, it is better to call a doctor to avoid complications. You should also seek medical help if the nose bleeds for more than 20 minutes. Thus, you can lose a lot of blood and cause trouble. If a person has frequent nosebleeds, first aid is good, but not enough. In such a situation, it is also better to consult a specialist to find out the reason and eliminate the negative development of events.
