Stuffed Herring - a traditional Russian dish

Stuffed herring - extravagant serving of fish dishes to the table. It is prepared in an elementary way, and comes out appetizingly, it looks exclusively on the holiday table. A similar dish is prepared in advance, before the feast, the workpiece is only cut and laid out on plates.

Stuffed herring for the New Year and other holidays - this has become a tradition dish. Herring is loved in Russia, which is no wonder. For a long time, when the windows of the deli were not full of trout fillet, flounder and other exotic fish, herring was available to everyone. And before the holidays, long lines took her.

Herring is popular even now when there is a large selection of grocery stores. And this is logical, nevertheless, with excellent taste, the price for it is much lower than the cost of other varieties of fish, which taste worse than herring.

It happens to be a weak and ordinary salting, it is cut into beautiful pieces or made in the form of rolls, mincemeat, and used in salads. There are many variations.

How to stuff herring

Consider the simplest recipe for stuffed herring. For him we need :

  • one slightly salted herring;
  • one carrot, red or yellow bell pepper;
  • one onion, sweet red or green;
  • one boiled chicken egg;
  • 15 grams of soluble gelatin;
  • 150 grams of mayonnaise;
  • salt and pepper to taste.

Stuffed Herring Recipe

Prepare an appetizer like this:

  1. The herring is cleaned of the skin, ridge and bones.
  2. Carrots and eggs are boiled, thinned and peeled. Then cut into small cubes.
  3. Green onions are simply finely chopped.
  4. Gelatin is mixed with 3-4 tablespoons of water, milk or fish broth and left to swell for 10 minutes. Then the mixture is heated until the gelatin is completely dissolved, stirring occasionally. Then mix gelatin and mayonnaise.
  5. Add carrots, eggs and onions, salt, and pepper. Put in the refrigerator to thicken the filling.
  6. Herring fillet is spread on cellophane, the filling is laid out on top. Cover with a second piece of fillet.
  7. Tightly wrap with a film and put in the refrigerator before serving.

Before the feast, the stuffed herring is cut into pieces and nicely laid on a plate.

Herring roll

We need:

  • one slightly salted herring;
  • one processed cheese;
  • one tsp mayonnaise;
  • one tbsp. l sweet pickled peppers;
  • 3-5 sprigs of parsley or dill;
  • black pepper to taste;
  • bread and mustard to serve.

Stuffed salted herring

Getting started:

  1. Herring is cleaned of skin and seeds, divided into two fillets.
  2. Lay the fillet lap on polyethylene. Cover with another piece of film and beat off with a hammer, making it evenly flat.
  3. The film that is on top is removed.
  4. Rub the cream cheese and mix it with mayonnaise.
  5. Stack the filling on the fillet with an even layer, pepper to taste.
  6. The next layer is made from chopped pepper and herbs.
  7. Carefully wrap the herring in a tight roll.
  8. Then put it in the freezer for one hour.
  9. After cooling, they cut with beautiful rings 1.5–2 centimeters thick. Serve the dish on slices of bread, garnished with mustard.
