Mary discovered a sore under her lip in her two-year-old son. When examined under a microscope, white, blue, black and red fibers were found. She decided to immediately turn to the doctors for help, as she had never seen such wounds in her practice. However, none of the 8 doctors found anything unusual in the child, and some of them advised the woman to undergo a psychiatric examination. In their opinion, Mary Leitao had "Munchausen syndrome through a representative."
But still, the Leitao family stood their ground and was sure that their son was suffering from some previously unknown disease. In 2002, Mary gave her son a name for the disease. She called her Margelon's disease.
