Genghis Khan is a group from Germany that was created in 1979 specifically to participate in the Eurovision Song Contest. The team managed to win fourth place. Soon he became popular not only in his native country, but also in Japan, Australia, the USSR and Eastern Europe.
History
Genghis Khan is a group that was created a few weeks before the German selection for the Eurovision Song Contest. For this event, composer Ralph Siegel prepared the song of the same name. Genghis Khan is the group that won the national selection. As a result, the team was entrusted with representing the country at Eurovision. There, the participants performed the song Dschinghis Khan and managed to take fourth place.
In 1984, the team broke up due to financial problems.
In 1988, former band lead singer Leslie Mandoki and Eva Chepregi, a member of the Hungarian Neoton Familia, sang the official song Korea during the opening of the Olympic Games in Seoul.
In 1993, the dancer and soloist of the group, Louis Hendrik Potgiter, died.
In 1999, four songs from the band's album were remixed and also produced by David Brandes.
In 2005, the group reunited. Soon the first concert was held in Russia. He took place in Moscow in the Olympic complex. The event was attended by about 30 thousand spectators.
In 2006, the group went on a tour that was dedicated to the memory of the deceased Steve Bender. As part of the journey, musicians performed in Kiev and Ulan Bator.
In 2007, the group recorded an album called 7 Leben. It contains new compositions, as well as processing of previous hits.
In 2009, the group attended the Eurovision Song Contest, which was held in Moscow.
In 2012, the team performed in Ukraine, in Nikopol, as part of the celebration of the city's day.
Heinz Gross, producer, said in an interview that in the eighties in the USSR the group was banned, it was accused of nationalism and anti-communism.
