Almost every one of us wondered what is the difference between a donut and a donut. After all, the dough, the recipe, the cooking process are the same. And the treat, which is actually a crumpet, is for some reason called a donut.
Gastronomic research
Itโs hard to believe, but there are a number of philological and gastronomic studies on the theme of donuts and donuts. The writer Svyatoslav Loginov, delving into history, held the most interesting of them. He found out that the word "dumpling" comes from "puff, puff, blow with heat." In the literature, the first mention dates back to the beginning of the 19th century. And by the end of his yeast donuts appear in many literary works, are popular under that name.
There is no mention of a donut either in the Dahl dictionary or in cookbooks until the 30s of the last century. Yeast dumplings fried in a pan have a round hole in the middle. A donut is a butter ball (with or without filling) in which there is no hole. The confusion in the names was due to one cookbook. It offered a donut recipe in the form of a ringlet. It was from here that the manner came to call a dumpling full of holes in the center, in other words.

How to cook fried dumplings with yeast, the recipe steps are presented below.
Step One - Prepare the Test
Milk (water) needs to be heated to a temperature of 30-35 degrees, it is possible in the microwave. It is strictly forbidden to use hot milk, as the yeast will lose its properties.
A regular bag contains 11 g of dry yeast. This volume is calculated per kilogram of flour. Accordingly, about 1/3 of the bag is consumed per 350 g. Add sugar, yeast to milk, mix. Leave on for 10-15 minutes (until a thick foam appears on the surface of the milk).
Melt the butter in the microwave or in the water bath. Leave it to cool to room temperature. After the oil has cooled, it is added to the yeast dough.
Beat the egg with salt in a deep bowl. Add the dough and mix until smooth. Then add the flour in parts, constantly stirring with a spoon. When the dough becomes tight, it is better to go kneading by hand. It should turn out elastic and stop sticking to the walls of the dishes.
Cover the bowl with the ready-made dough with a towel, put it in the heat for an hour. It should double its volume if everything is done correctly.
Step two - work with the test
After the dough has come up, you need to get it out of the bowl. Lubricate your hands with sunflower oil to prevent it from sticking. Sprinkle flour on a table or board, divide the dough into small balls. Then each crush so that it takes the form of a cake or a thick pancake. In the middle, make a hole with your finger. It looks like a bagel. In order to get equally round kruglyashi, you need to roll out the finished dough, then squeeze out the circles with a glass or a special notch. Then cut the core out of each into a smaller shape, giving the product the appearance of a ring.

Yeast can be fried in two ways. Less caloric and fatty are those that are baked in the oven. They are laid evenly on a baking sheet greased with pre-sunflower oil so that they do not touch each other. In the process of baking, products significantly increase in size and can stick together. Donuts are left on the baking sheet to approach for another 30-40 minutes, covered with cling film, oiled. Only then put in the oven. Bake at 180 degrees until golden brown. They are soft, airy, with a porous crumb.
If you plan to fry the crumpets in a pan, then leave them on the board for 15-20 minutes to rise. Better if it is a warm place. In a deep frying pan (at least 5 cm tall) or pan you need to pour vegetable oil. After the cakes have increased in volume, they need to be fried in a pan in well-heated oil. One at a time, they are carefully loaded into the pan. At first they will drown, but they will pop up very quickly. After this, the donuts should be turned over to brown on both sides.
When the products are ready, you need to catch them with a slotted spoon, put them on a paper towel or napkin, so that excess fat is absorbed. The approximate frying time on each side is 3-5 minutes.
Serving to the table
After the donuts have cooled slightly, they are sprinkled with powdered sugar, glazed with different flavors, liquid chocolate, served with jam, jam, honey, sour cream. Decorate in various ways: multi-colored coconut flakes, confectionery beads, chocolate chips, crushed nuts, berries and fruits.
Here are some interesting facts. There is a Christian holiday - Vlasyev Day, is celebrated on February 11. On this day, a moleben is traditionally served, cakes and pancakes are baked. And on the first Friday of June they celebrate the donut's day, loved by many, not only in the USA, but throughout the world.
