Wild milk thistle is a weed and poisonous plant, but it has long been cultivated and grown in order to obtain medicinal raw materials. Previously, it was used only in recipes of traditional medicine, but today the substance silymarin (from seeds) is listed in the list of medicines.
In composition, it is a very rich plant, containing not only proteins and flavonoids, but also vitamins, as well as trace elements. In total, it contains about 200 useful compounds, for which it has received widespread use in medicine, although it has milk thistle contraindications (minimal).
The healing properties of milk thistle
Extracts of this plant are most used in the treatment of the gastrointestinal tract. He is considered an assistant in poisoning, intoxication, toxicosis of pregnant women, it normalizes the metabolism and cleanses the liver of toxins, therefore it is used for diabetes, obesity, jaundice, as well as some other diseases of the liver and spleen.
Milk thistle, the contraindications of which are minimized, improves healing in fractures, open wounds, varicose veins and hemorrhoids. It also helps with constipation with colitis.
Most of the preparations based on this plant are developed and produced for the treatment of liver diseases. So, milk thistle is indicated for cirrhosis, hepatitis, chemical intoxications (chlorine, alcohol, narcotic substances). It also protects the liver from radiation.
