The first season of the series was based on Tom Perrota's book, Remains. The next two seasons have already been created by directors and scriptwriters of the serial. The plot focuses on residents of the small town of Mapleton in New York State. Quite suddenly, life around them has changed dramatically. Thousands of people disappeared without a trace. In fact, only two percent of the world's inhabitants disappeared. What caused the mystical events remained unknown. Scientists cannot answer hundreds of questions of civilians, the world is in a panic.
An interesting feature is that the creators and actors of the series "Left" do not answer the questions of the audience about why it all happened, but only show what the life of the remaining ones has become.
Plot
The main events take place three years after the loss. People still have not recovered from the loss of loved ones. Some of them even united in strange communities, more similar to sects. Their participants never talk, walk in white, eat bad food and smoke all the time. In their opinion, the main goal of the organization is to make people remember. It is because of this that the members of the organization periodically arrange various actions. Most often they take to the streets with flashy posters. In addition, they ruined the celebration of the anniversary of the disappearance. But the most large-scale movement was the creation of disappeared dolls, which were placed in the homes of their loved ones. Because of this, various skirmishes very often occur between ordinary people and sect members.
In the first season of the series, events unfold in the city of Mapleton. In the second chapter of history, the central action is transferred to the small town of Miracle. He is known for the fact that during the disappearance there was not a single missing person. In the third part of the project, the main characters move to Australia. As the plot develops, the series becomes more and more easy to read. It carries a lot of irony, ridiculing human stupidity and religious fanaticism.
The story of the protagonist
The central character in the story turned out to be a young sheriff named Kevin Garvey. He is raising two children. However, the guy also suffers from a nervous breakdown. The authorities begin to think about how to remove him from work, as now the guy begins to shoot dogs that seem aggressive to him. Over time, Kevin’s condition worsens even more.
Garvey's ex-wife, Laurie, has also changed a lot since her disappearance. In the first season of the series "Left" (2014), she is shown as one of the participants in the cult of whites. Kevin is trying to persuade her to return to the family, but nothing comes of it.
As for the children of Lori and Kevin, the eldest son Tommy also left after the mother left the family. He joined the team of the mystical healer, who is considered the Messiah. The daughter of Garvey, young Jill, became very withdrawn, and their relationship with her father deteriorated greatly.
Other storylines
An important hero for the story is priest Matt Jamis. He denies the theory that extinction is an ascension described in the Bible. To prove this, he distributes leaflets with biographies of the missing, revealing their greatest vices, so that people would not think that all the departed were saints. His family was also hit hard by extinction. Matt's wife was in the car at that time, and her driver was missing. She is now in a coma, but Jamis continues to believe in her healing.
One of the main characters is also Matt's sister, Nora Durst. In a fateful day for all mankind, she lost two children and her husband. She now works in the Department of Disappearances, hoping to help other people who have been left without their families.

This was told by Nora Durst herself. The fact is that she was able to get to the place where the disappeared went. According to the girl, the world was somehow divided into two realities. One of them is the one in which she was, and in the other all disappeared existed. Nora was shocked by that world and realized that those people had lost much more. Their life became incredibly complex, literally everything had to be changed. Airplanes no longer fly long distances due to a lack of pilots, steamers do not sail, and so on.
The girl was able to find her family in that world, but did not dare to approach. Suddenly she saw that the relatives were able to survive the loss and were happy.
